Mercedes has officially unveiled the 2010 Mercedes S-Class Facelift details today.
Looking from the exterior, the new facelift model feature a more pronounced grille, redesigned bumper with chrome inserts in the air intakes and features an LED daytime driving lights, indicators and marker lights.Looking from the back, there are little modification except the addition of a new new LED taillights and am improved exhaust system that is integrated into the rear bumper.
Known as the car with lots of safety features, the newer updated S-Class feature more safety features that you could think off.One of it is the Adaptive Highbeam Assist system which adjusts the vehicles headlights to maximize forward visibility while preventing oncoming motorists from being distracted by the unnecessary use of the highbeams.A new Lane Keeping Assist function which vibrates the driver’s seat whenever the car leaves a lane unintentionally.A revised Night View Assist system can be has been updated to feature a pedestrian detection and and a new Speed Limit Assist system that displays the current speed limit in the central display.
Safety aside, others gadgets found in the S-Class includes a SPLITVIEW monitor which allows the driver and the front seat passenger to look at the same screen and see different things.With this technology, the driver can view the car system info or GPS while the passenger are able to watch their favourite DVD’s.Another upgrades worth mentioning is the revised COMMAND system with a new SD card slot, USB port and bluetooth connectivity.For the comfort of the rear passenger, a pair of eight-inch displays had been installed together with a wireless headphones and remote control.
Despite of all the changes, the most significant upgrades is the launch of the S400 HYBRID which its fuel consumption is only 7.9L/100km and emits just 186 grams of CO2 per kilometer.The S-Class Hybrids is the world’s first production vehicle to combine a hybrid powertrain with a lithium-ion battery. The engine in use is a 3.5-liter petrol engine which produces 205 kW (279 hp) and an electric motor that cranks out 15 kW (20 hp)
If you are not into Hybrid, there is another 8 petrol and diesel engine to choose from and all of it had been upgraded to consume less fuel and produce less emissions.For the diesel there is a 173 kW (235 hp) 3.0-liter V6 as well as a 4.0-liter V8 that cranks out 235 kW (320 hp).As for Petrol Engine, there are six choices including a 3.5-liter V6 with 200 kW (272 hp), a 4.7-liter V8 producing 250 kW (340 hp), a 5.5-liter V8 with 285 kW (388 hp), and a 5.5-liter biturbo V12 that cranks out 380 kW (517 hp).If power is the onw you looking for, no worries, you can opt for the S63 AMG which produces 386 kW (525 hp) from its 6.2-liter V8 or the S65 AMG which has a 6.0-liter V12 that boasts 450 kW (612 hp).
The facelifted S-Class is Scheduled to go on sale in Germany this June and will be competing against the recently redesigned BMW 7-series and the upcoming 2010 Audi A8
