VEHICLES SALES CONTINUE TO DROPPED COMPARED TO LAST YEAR SALES
KUALA LUMPUR, — New vehicle sales in May 2009 dropped by 8.32 percent or 3,986 units to 43,944 units from 47,930 units in the same month last year, Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) said Thursday.
Sales for the first five months of the year also declined by 11.01 percent or 25,223 units to 203,760 units from 228,983 units same period last year, said MAA in a statement released here.
Out of the 43,944 units of vehicles sold last month, 40,118 units was passenger vehicle, while the remaining 3,826 units were commercial vehicle.
Production of vehicles in May also declined to 36,391 units, of which 33,473 units were passenger vehicles and 2,918 units of commercial vehicles, from 42,558 units last year May (39,249 passenger vehicle; 3,309 commercial vehicle).
Year to date production shrank by 12.7 percent to 189,974 units.
“Sales volume in June 2009 is expected to be maintained as market conditions and sentiments unchanged,” said MAA on the outlook of the sector.
