We have heard rumors for time that Ferrari wish to get in on the SUV action much like Porsche have with their Cayenne, however the Italian Supercar Maker has often denied this. Well it now seems as if we had some information that the Ferrari Concept is coming, and it should be coming in some time in 2010.
The vehicle with the codename “Ferrari FS 599 Fuoristrada” will be constructed out of aluminium and carbon fiber composites for weight-efficiency. Engines come from the naturally aspirated V8 found in the California and the 599 GTB V12 powerplant. They produce in excess of 400hp and 600hp each respectively. While the latter’s figure seems slightly excessive, Ferrari will not manufacture an SUV that will deliver average performance. It has to be the most powerful and by extension the fastest around.
Despite an empty weight of around 2.2 tons the sprint from 0 to 100 km/h is supposed to take less than five seconds, thanks to Formula 1 -type shift paddles on the steering wheel. Targeted top speed is 300 km/h.
The Ferrari is aimed to be debuted in the 2010 Geneva Motor Show. But with the current economy turn down, no one knows if the project is still going or not. With the recent announcement of an alliance with Ferrari parent Fiat and Chrysler LLC of America new possibilities have arisen. Such possibilities include a common SUV platform that can be shared with Jeep, Alfa Romeo and Ferrari itself. In the end we might see few suv’s sharing the same platform with different price tags.
Jom komen!
