The Concept BlueSport is the two-seat roadster, taking VW into a realm usually the preserve of Japanese manufacturers such as Toyota and Mazda and new German owners Porsche. It combines a mid-mounted common-rail diesel engine with a lightweight chassis structure to boost efficiency and driving dynamics
With this unit that produces 350Nm of torque, the Concept BlueSport can sprint from zero to 60 mph in just 6.2 seconds (0-100 km/h: 6,6 seconds) while its top speed is 140 mph (226 km/h).
Even more interesting is the fuel consumption of the car with 55 mpg U.S. (4,3 l/100 km) that is combined with an ultralow CO2 level of 113 g/km CO2. An ‘Eco’ mode function activates an automatic Stop-Start system and braking energy regeneration.
The mid-engine roadster weighs in at less than 1,200 kilograms. Low weight was attained by consistent application of lightweight construction methods. Among other things, the soft top—at 27 kilograms—is the lightest in its class, and the hoods are made of aluminum.
