PROTON EXPECTS TO EXPORT 20,925 CARS THIS YEAR
PETALING JAYA, — Proton Holdings Bhd which exported 18,428 units of cars for the financial year ended March 31, 2009, has set a target of exporting 20,925 units in the current financial year.
Its managing director, Datuk Syed Zainal Abidin Syed Mohamed Tahir said it would be about 15 percent of the total production volume.
“Proton is putting its emphasis on developing markets for exporting completely knocked-down (CKD) units, such as Iran, China and India while focusing on exporting completely built up units in the ASEAN (member) countries and stabilising its other existing markets,” he told reporters after the company’s annual general meeting here Friday.
He also said that Proton would come up with a new replacement model in the second half of the current financial year, but declined to name which car model would be replaced.
Proton expects to be profitable in the current financial year. It reported a pre-tax loss of RM319.2 million in the previous financial year, while registering a pre-tax gain of RM64.4 million in the first quarter ended June 30, 2009.
