We have heard how economical crisis hit automotive industry but here we want to share some different story from thestar where UMW Toyota make its best record on last year car sales. Up to 101600 units in 2008 and it was amazing!
KLANG: Despite the challenging times in the automotive industry, UMW Toyota Motor Sdn Bhd – the distributor and assembler of Toyota vehicles in Malaysia, managed to chalk up a new sales record of 101,600 units in 2008.
Managing director Kuah Kock Heng said yesterday UMW Toyota’s sales figure was slightly above 18% of the total industry volume (TIV) last year.
In 2007, UMW Toyota sold 82,000 vehicles or 17.1% of the TIV.
Kuah said competition in the local automotive industry was expected to be stiffer among the players this year as the TIV was expected to fall.
A research report by Frost & Sullivan had indicated that the demand for new vehicles in the country would contract by 8.1%.
”As a key player in the industry, UMW Toyota would want to maintain our market share at around 18% to 19%,” he told reporters after the launch of the company’s RM2mil newly-upgraded branch in Jalan Kepayang in Klang.
He said the company would continue to give customers value-for-money car models via innovative marketing packages, besides providing good service and enhancing its outlets.
“For instance, this year we will introduce the Toyota racing development package of parts and accessories for the Toyota Vios and also for other models,” he said.
On sales forecast for this year, Kuah said the company was keen to know the Malaysia Automotive Association (MAA) TIV projection for 2009, before making its announcement.
“We will publish our numbers once MAA’s TIV figures are out.”
