  • THE NEW SUBARU XV 2.0i PREMIUM

At Dubai International Motorshow, we have the opportunity to look closely at the all-new Subaru XV 2.0i Premium. This new Subaru XV should be of interest to Malaysians as it is the one which will be assembled locally from next year.

The new Subaru XV will be powered by the new FB series engine. The FB series has two engine sizes at this time – 1.6 litres (84 bhp/150 Nm) and 2.0 litres (110 bhp/196 Nm), both Euro5-compliant. Both are essentially similar in design except for the engine blocks. Compared to the current Impreza 1.5-litre engine, the new 1.6-litre engine is claimed to be far superior in all respects. For more efficient combustion, a more compact combustion chamber was designed, a cooled EGR design was adopted, the shapes of the intake ports and valves were enhanced, and the injector positions were optimized. The Active Valve Control System (AVCS) enhances response to give the driver a feeling of instant acceleration, especially when the accelerator is lightly depressed.

The fuel economy is claimed to be about 10% better, aided by factors such as a lighter body, improved aerodynamics and auto start/stop function. The new stop-start system that Subaru promises can restart more quickly than rival systems

The XV is said to be a new type of crossover SUV which emphasizes sportiness and boasts a range of new features never seen before in an SUV. It is claimed to offer superior drive performance and fuel efficiency made possible by Subaru’s next-generation powertrain, symmetrical All-Wheel-Drive and advanced Subaru Dynamic Chassis Control.

The wide trapezoidal grille and ‘hawk-eye’ headlights are both hints at Subaru’s latest family look, while the plastic undertray, roof rails and high wheelarches all emphasise the four-wheel-drive-only XV’s off-road ability.

Inside, bosses have made a concerted effort to improve the design and quality – often a weak point of other Subarus.

Subaru XV is ready to take the fight to the BMW X1 and Audi.
