PROTON R3 RALLY TEAM FAILS TO COMPLETE YPRES RALLY
It hasn’t been the best of starts for the Proton R3 Malaysia Rally Team, which returned to the Intercontinental Rally Challenge this year at the weekend’s Rally of Belgium, also known as the Ypres Rally.
The team’s two-car challenge in the asphalt event, spearheaded by lead driver Alistair McRae with co-driver Bill Hayes, and Chris Atkinson with co-driver Stephane Prevot, failed to complete the event. Both vehicles, along with a third Satria Neo S2000, driven by British privateer Tom Cave, retired during SS4 due to engine problems. The team has begun investigations into the root cause of the problem.
The rally was won by Belgian Freddy Loix in a Skoda Fabia S2000, who finished 21secs ahead of Jan Kopecky, also driving a Fabia S2000, with third place going to Peugeot Team Belux’s Thierry Neuville.
The Rally of Belgium is one of the four European rounds that the Proton R3 Malaysia Rally Team is competing in this season.
