Motor Image Aims To Sell 150 Units Of Subaru Cars In Malaysia Next Year
PETALING JAYA, Nov 6 (Bernama) — The Motor Image Group, the sole distributor of Subaru brand cars in the region, expects to sell 150 units next year in Malaysia, said group chief executive Glenn Tan today.
He said the sale was expected to come through the existing models — the Subaru Forester Sports Utility Vehicle and the Subaru Impreza S-GT.
“We hope our latest model will help drive up sales next year,” he told reporters at the launch of the new model, the Subaru Impreza WRX STI here.
To date, the company has sold more than 20 units of the Forester and Impreza S-GT in Malaysia, Tan said, adding that one booking had been received for the new model at the launch.
The Subaru Impreza WRX STI, available only with the six speed manual transmission, is propelled by a 2.5 liter DOHC turbocharged boxer engine.
“The engine is mounted lower on the chassis, further advancing vehicle stability,” Tan said.
The car is available in four colours — pure white, spark silver metallic, dark grey metallic and Subaru’s trademark, WR Blue Mica.
The Impreza WRX STI enters the market with a price tag of RM299,966.
Meanwhile, Tan said Motor Image was keen to manufacture the completely knocked down (CKD) Subaru Forester series in Malaysia, using Tan Chong’s manufacturing plant.
“We are still in the early stages of negotiations,” he said.
Currently, all Subaru models are manufactured in Japan and imported as completely built-up units.
Motor Image, a unit of Tan Chong International Ltd, is the sole distributor of Subaru cars in Singapore and has since expanded its presence to manage distributorships in Malaysia, Hong Kong, Indonesia and China.
