HYUNDAI RECALLED 515 TUCSON OVER AIRBAG SYSTEM DEFECT
SEOUL, — Hyundai Motor Co said Tuesday it is voluntarily recalling 515 sport-utility vehicles in the United States over a defect in the airbag system, Yonhap reported.
The recall affects new Tucson sport-utility vehicles produced in South Korea from Nov 10 and 30 last year and exported to the U.S., company officials said.
The defect involves the airbag system in the front passenger seat and may not properly protect a passenger in a crash, the news agency reported the officials as saying.
Hyundai has notified the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in the U.S. of the defect, according to the officials.
The same models sold in South Korea were not subject to the recall because they have a different built-in airbag system, they added.
Hyundai began selling the 2010 Tucson in the U.S. in January, with sales there reaching 2,216 units last month, Yonhap said.
The recall came less than a week after Hyundai decided to recall about 47,000 units of its new Sonata sedan in the U.S. and South Korea over a glitch in the front-door locks.
