  • HONDA CR-Z LAUNCHED IN MALAYSIA > RM115,000

Honda Malaysia has launched the CR-Z in Malaysian market. Priced at RM115,000 (RM111,878, without insurance), the CR-Z is the latest hot hatch to the car enthusiasts. The new CR-Z is a sporty car with green leanings more than anything else, and that likely guided the engineers’ efficiency targets.

The Honda CR-Z hybrid heart is a unique variation of Honda’s original IMA technology, which originally debuted on the Honda Insight. The system utilizes a four-cylinder, 1.5 litre, 16-valve, single-overhead cam engine with “intelligent” Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control (i-VTEC) same engine found in the Honda City and the Jazz that develops only 91PS but receives additional power from the Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) system’s DC brushless electric. The powertrain combination delivers 124 PS at 6,000 rpm and 174 Nm of torque at 1,000 to 1,500 rpm.The IMA Hybrid System is mated to a six-speed manual gearbox, which is the standard transmission for the car, with a Hill-Start Assist function present.

The CR-Z can be driven in any one of three driving modes, activated via three backlit buttons on the steering wheel. The three-mode drive system allows the driver to select between individual modes of performance for SPORT, NORMAL and ECONOMY driving styles.

    – SPORT mode enhances engine throttle responsiveness, electric power steering effort and the electric motor power assist.
    – NORMAL mode standardizes steering, engine response, motor assist and air conditioning settings.
    – ECON mode can increase the potential for enhanced fuel efficiency by optimizing throttle angle for smooth acceleration, lower engine rpm and limiting power and torque by approximately 4 percent (except at wide-open throttle). It can also reduce the air conditioning’s overall load on the engine and modify the cruise control to operate more efficiently. An outstanding fuel economy touted at around 22 kilometres per litre, when driven in economy mode.

Inside, it has the best interior among Honda’s cheaper offerings, with cloth door inserts,  and attractive switchgear. It’s certainly better than the cost-cut, hard-plastic-riddled cabin of the Insight. It also has the rear foldable seats and a glovebox cooler. Folding down the rear seat back translates into 410 litres of boot space, which allows space for two golf bags.

Standard equipment for CR-Z are the VSA (Vehicle Stability Assist), power adjustable door mirrors, power locks and windows, dual front airbags, side curtain airbags, ABS, BA and EDB. In addition, the driver gets an automatic climate control, cruise control, a tilting and telescoping steering wheel, USB and auxiliary inputs, halogen headlamps with LED positioning lights, front fog lamps, a three-spoke leather steering wheel, and the three-mode drive system.

The front MacPherson strut and rear H-shaped torsion beam suspension are tuned to provide a sporty driving experience. This CR-Z is equipped with 16″ twin-spoke alloy wheels with 195/55R tires. One colour available at the launch which is Premium White Pearl.Other colours, red, black and silver will come soon. The CVT version also will come sometime next year.

The car gets a 3-year or 100,000km warranty with 6-month or 10,000km free service.

The hybrid battery gets a 5-year or 140,000km warranty while the standard battery gets a 2-year or 40,000km warranty.
