EURO NCAP’S LATEST RESULT – AUDI Q5, HONDA JAZZ, HYUNDAI I20, KIA SOUL, PEUGEOT 3008 AND SUZUKI ALTO.

Five out of the six cars tested in the latest round of the Euro NCAP test have scored 5 stars. they are Audi Q5, Honda Jazz, Hyundai i20, Kia Soul and Peugeot 3008.

According to Euro NCAP, The Audi Q5 which was just launched here in Malaysia, scored maximum points for side barrier impact for both adults and children, with forward movement from a front impact described as ‘not excessive.’

Testing showed that the 2009 Audi Q5 provides good protection for all parts of the occupants’ bodies, however the steering column was determined to present a risk of injury to femurs.

For the safety rating, Audi Q5 scored 92% for Adult, 84% for Child, 32% for Pedestrian and 71% for Safety Assist.

The Kia Soul achieved maximum points in the program’s new testing scheme for child and adult protection in the event of a frontal or side impact, with good protection offered against whiplash injuries.

For the safety rating, Kia Soul scored 87% for Adult, 86% for Child, 39% for Pedestrian and 86% for Safety Assist.

The upcoming Hyundai i20,  joined the group with maximum points in side barrier impact testing for both adults and children.

Stiff structures in the dashboard of the i20 presented a hazard to the femurs of the driver and front passenger.

Despite their dashes, both the Hyundai i20 and the Honda Jazz received top honours for pedestrian safety, providing good leg protection.

For the safety rating, Hyundai i20 scored 88% for Adult, 83% for Child, 64% for Pedestrian and 86% for Safety Assist.

The 2009 Honda Jazz rated well overall, protection against other body regions was rated as good.However chest protection was defined as poor in the event of a side impact, with rib deflections exceeding safe limits.

Like the Hyundai i20, stiff structures in the dashboard were rated as a potential hazard to the femurs of the driver and front passenger.

For the safety rating, Honda Jazz scored 78% for Adult, 79% for Child, 60% for Pedestrian and 71% for Safety Assist.
