EDARAN TAN CHONG MOTOR AIMS TO GROW 5.6 % IN CAR MARKET.
KUALA LUMPUR, May 5 — Edaran Tan Chong Motor Sdn Bhd, sales and marketing arm of Nissan vehicles in Malaysia, aims to grow its car market share to 5.6 per cent this year, aided by growth in the multi-purpose vehicle segment.
Executive Director Datuk Dr Ang Bon Beng said his company achieved 5.5 per cent market share in the overall car market segment in Malaysia last year.
“Eventhough there may be some uncertainties in the market because of the impact of the increase in interest rates, overall there is still positive momentum in the market,” he told reporters at the prize presentation of the “Buy One Win One” Nissan Crazy Contest.
Dr Ang said the people’s lifestyle was changing and that the multi-purpose vehicle was driving market demand now.
He said the overall total industry volume (TIV) in Malaysia is expected to see positive growth eventhough uncertainties may persist due to the impact of higher interest rates.
“For the first quarter of this year, the total industry volume grew by six per cent as compared with the fourth quarter last year, but Nissan TIV in Malaysia expanded by 8.5 per cent, surpassing industry volume growth in Malaysia,” he said.
Dr Ang said Edaran Tan Chong Motor will also be expanding overseas into Indo-china.
“We’ve got a franchise in Cambodia and Laos and we will be actively expanding into the Indo-China area,” he added.
At the prize-giving ceremony Wednesday, Mohammad Zaini AB Rahman, a batik businessman from Kuala Terengganu who bought a Grand Livina 1.6 A/T in August last year, won a Nissan Murano 3.5L XTRONIC CVT worth RM318,200 today in conjunction with the “I’m Nissan Crazy” campaign Buy one Win One contest.
The contest is held as an appreciation to valued Nissan customers in the form of an opportunity to win a crazy and outrageous reward from purchasing a Nissan vehicle.
The 10-month contest is open to customers who buy any Nissan vehicle between June 1, 2009 and March 31, 2010.
