DRB-HICOM TO BRING POTENZA SPORTS CAR IN ASIA
DRB-HICOM partners carmaker Potenza
PETALING JAYA: DRB-HICOM Bhd yesterday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Potenza Sports Car Ltd to manufacture and distribute the latter’s products, including hybrids and electric vehicles, locally.
Potenza is the manufacturer of the Westfield and GTM marques.
DRB-HICOM group managing director Datuk Seri Mohd Kamil Jamil said in a statement that both parties would look into the possibility of manufacturing Potenza sports cars for the Asia-Pacific market.
He added that this collaboration would pave the way for DRB-HICOM to become the exclusive importer, manufacturer and distributor of the sports cars, including the electric and hybrid variants, in the region.
Kamil said the tie-up would include the possibility of the company becoming a development partner on new vehicle projects.
This would include the possibility of sourcing the components locally, taking advantage of the incentives provided by the Government, he added.
Westfield Sports Cars managing director Julian Turner said Potenza’s combined sales would increase five-fold over its current production of 400 cars per annum within the next three years by utilising the manufacturing and distribution infrastructure of DRB-HICOM.
“At this stage, the parties will explore various possibilities in this collaboration and we are positive of the outcome,” Kamil said.
