Presented at the Paris Motor Show, the Citroën Hypnos is a design study for a luxury ecological crossover featuring the HYmotion4 hybrid powertrain, a bold and sleek exterior design and an original colorful interior focused on dreamlike technology.
First previewed back in September 2008, the Hypnos concept is equipped with the HYmotion4 diesel hybrid drivetrain – the same featured on the Peugeot TC HYmotion4 Concept.
Feasible from an industrial standpoint, this architecture features a front diesel engine and a rear axle-mounted electric motor, which optimizes dynamic performance and traction while delivering low fuel consumption and emissions (4.5 l/100 km and 120 g/km of CO2).
Hypnos’ exterior features sleek, flowing body lines, with a total length of 4.9 meters and 22-inches wheels combines the spirit of a saloon with the volumes of a cross-over.
The cabin, with its original colours, premium materials, comfortable individual body-hugging seats, is inspired by dreamlike in-car technology and colour therapy, and enables passengers to enjoy a powerful sensory experience, verging on the magical.
Technical Features
Citroen Hypnos Concept RenderingThe Hmotion4 hybrid powertrain features a 200 bhp (147 kW) 2-litre HDi DPFS diesel engine mated to a six-speed electronic gearbox system, with torque of 420 Nm – combined with an electric motor located on the rear axle developing 50 bhp for 200 Nm of torque.
Hypnos is also equipped with Stop & Start technology that cuts out the engine when the car comes to a halt in urban traffic jams or at red lights. This system also powers the electric motor when the vehicle is in 4×4 mode.
By controlling fuel consumption and, hence, pollutant emissions, Hypnos has combined cycle consumption levels of 4.5 l/100 km for CO2 emissions of 120 g/km.
If the driver keeps a foot on the accelerator pedal, the boost function kicks in to provide the immediate torque required. This function combines the torque of the combustion engine with that of the electric motor to deliver an acceleration from 0 to 100 kph in 9.4 seconds and a 0-1000 meters sprint in 31 seconds.
Additional technical highlights include third-generation hydraulic suspension and selectable four-wheel drive mode.
