Chery Alado Automobile Sdn Bhd launched the CKD (completely knocked down) Chery Tiggo model in Kuala Lumpur last week.
Malaysia is the first country in the world to receive the right-hand drive CKD Tiggo.
The mid-sized SUV will be offered with either the 1.6-litre engine, with a manual transmission, or a 2.0-litre with automatic transmission, priced at RM78,888 and RM89,888 OTR with insurance respectively.
Both versions will be powered by the European developed Acteco engines already found in the CBU (completely build-up) Tiggo and A520 sedan.
Apart from the larger front grille and spoiler mounted third-brake lights, the CKD 1.6-litre Tiggo maintains the same equipment and features as its CBU version.
The 2.0-litre variant features leather seats, steering mounted audio and cruise control buttons. However, the CBU 2.0-litre manual versions have been dropped in favour of the CKD’s 2.0-litre 4-speed steptronic gearbox.
Chery Alado plans to sell between 250 and 300 units of the CKD Tiggo monthly.
All CKD Tiggo models will be assembled in Tampoi, Johor by Oriental Assemblers Sdn Bhd.
Chery Alado CEO Meng Tao said that there are no plans to introduce diesel engines to the Tiggo range.
However, Chery Alado sees potential in the Malaysian market to introduce the bulletproof version of the Tiggo.
In conjunction with the launch of the CKD Tiggo, Chery is giving away “Chery Max Amazing Breaks Holiday Vouchers” to purchasers of any Chery models.
The destinations include Bali, Phuket, Langkawi, Port Dickson, Kuantan and Genting Highlands, or any five-star hotel in the Klang Valley.
