CHECK TYRES CONDITION FREQUENTLY, MOTORIST REMINDED
KUALA LUMPUR, — Motorists are reminded to make it a habit to make a visual check on the condition of the tyres of their vehicles before leaving on a journey.
Road Safety Department (JKJR) director-general Datuk Suret Singh said Malaysian motorists seldom made a visual check of tyres before a journey, which posed a risk to road safety.
“All it takes is a minute or two to make a visual check. Tyre thread condition, cracks or uneveness can be inspected visually. Tyre pressure should also not be forgotten,” he told a press conference after launching a tyre safety campaign here Friday.
He also reminded motorists to follow the tyre specifications for their vehicles.
The eight-week campaign focuses on individual car owners and also involves the Road Transport Department, which will issue summonses to motorists if their tyres are bald.
On another matter, Suret said the MIREX ’09 road safety exhibition themed “Think Of Your Loves Ones”, which also involves participation by Asean countries and others like Britain, United States, United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Australia, would be held at the Malaysian International Exhibition and Convention Centre here from Aug 13 to 16.
