BERMAZ MOTOR AIMS TO SELL 300 MAZDA3 SPORT IN THE NEXT 12 MONTH
KUALA LUMPUR, June 5 Bermaz Motor Sdn Bhd, the local distributor of Mazda cars, aims to sell 300 units of the latest Mazda3 Sport in the next 12 months.
“We have received bookings and a very good response. I think to be fair, they have not reviewed the car. So, by this afternoon they will probably confirm their orders,” said Bermaz Motor’s executive director and chief executive officer, Datuk Ben Yeoh.
He was speaking at a media conference after the Mazda3 Sport launch here today. Also present was Tengku Mahkota Pahang, Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah.
According to Yeoh, the newly launched model is targeted at those with a very active lifestyle.
About two million units of the Mazda3 have been sold to date since its launch in 2003 and the Mazda3 Sport, which is a complete model change, is expected to continue the legacy.
Features in the Mazda3 Sport 2.0 include six airbags, paddle shifters with direct mode, bi-xenon headlamps, multi-information display and multi-function steering wheel.
In conjunction with the soft launch, the first 100 early bird customers will be rewarded with a special price of RM108,000 for the 1.6 model and RM128,000 for the 2.0 model.
Yeoh said jointly with Bermaz Motor and Prima Merdu Sdn Bhd, Mazda is considering starting a completely knocked down (CKD) assembly programme in Malaysia in line with the efforts of other well-known Japanese brands.
“We are looking at it and exploring the opportunity. We are still studying the viability because this is a product that is very advanced in terms of features,” he said.
“Once we think that the market can accept this vehicle and there’s market potential, then we will activate the CKD programme,” he said.
