The improvement of active safety is a constant philosophy at Subaru. In the aim of providing you with a reassuring driving experience at all times, Subaru has taken this a stage further in the new Forester. It is equipped with the Symmetrical AWD system for superior poise, balance and grip to avoid dangerous driving situations. But, if the worst comes to worst, a highly sturdy body has been developed with a passive safety system designed to reduce injury to passengers and damage to the vehicle.
   
 
 
Ring-Shaped Reinforcement Frames 

 
Subaru have developed a new generation of Ring-Shaped Reinforcement Frames for the Forester. The cabin includes reinforcement and is joined with frames through the roof to the doors, pillars and floor for a sturdy and energy absorbing design. This enables collision shocks from any direction to be dissipated quickly to protect the cabin area. In the event of a frontal collision, the main frame is designed to compress gradually to efficiently absorb the energy.
 
 
 
 
Pedestrian protection
 
 
At the Forester design stage, the highest level of pedestrian protection was the objective. Thus space was created between the bonnet and engine to absorb any shocks and thereby reduce pedestrian injury in an accident. In addition, energy absorbing front bumpers and detachable module type windshield wipers have also been used for increased protection.
 
 
Brakes
 
 
On all models, a 4-sensor/4-channel ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) precisely controls braking pressure to all four wheels and is mated to Electronic Brake-force Distribution which controls rear wheel braking power when the vehicle is heavily loaded to reduce braking distance. To complement this, the Brake assist function provides more force in sudden braking when the pedal alone is insufficient, while Hill Start Assist*1 holds the vehicle in place for a second after the driver’s foot has been lifted from the brake pedal.

 
 
All-round visibility
 
 
Your visibility is also a key factor in active safety. So, whilst the Forester’s ride height will give you a commanding view of the road ahead, the design of the side pillars and rear window enhances your vision even further to give you an almost panoramic view to the rear.
 
 
Seatbelts, airbags, active headrests and seat anchors
 
 
Standard interior safety features on all Foresters include front seat seatbelts that retract instantly in a frontal collision with pretensioners to hold passengers firmly in place and load limiters that ease shock to the chest area. These are then complemented by SRS*2 front, front side and curtain airbags and active headrests for the front seats that move forward automatically in a rear collision to support the passenger’s head and reduce shock to the neck. Finally and importantly, child and baby seats can be fastened in place with tether and ISO-FIX anchors.
