ACCIDENTS CAN BE AVOIDED WITH ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM (ABS) – ROAD SAFETY DEPARTMENT
KUALA LUMPUR, — Accidents can be avoided if vehicles have a good braking system, said the Road Safety Department (RSD) today which also called on owners of vehicles that do not have the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) to have it fixed urgently.
RSD director-general Datuk Suret Singh said the ABS made it easier for drivers to control their vehicles if they had to stop suddenly.
He said those who do not use the system needed to use brakes by the stepping and releasing action and the vehicle can go out of control if drivers did not have the skill.
Suret said however many local and imported cars already had the ABS.
“For those who do not have the system it can be had at a reasonable price,” he told reporters at a safety advocacy campaign in conjunction with Deepavali at the Brickfields police district headquarters here Friday.
Suret said the use of a good braking system was among safety steps that needed to be taken besides sticking to the speed limit and the use of proper tyres to prevent accidents.
