New Contribution From Izzudin Aslan
When you research a car you are thinking of buying, are you more likely to:
1. Go to manufacturers‘ websites for information
2. Look for reviews and road tests in newspaper sections
3. Look for reviews and road tests in car magazines
4. Research the internet for reviews and road tests on car news websites
5. Talk to friends
6. Collect brochures and information from car dealers
Which one from the answer above are your answer?
Normally for Malaysian context we hardly have to crack our heads doing this or that research because the choice is very obvious. And we do not have many models or make to content with. Even for popular Japs model like the Toyota or Honda when they launch a new model here-buyers readily place their booking without battling an eye lid. This is what brand loyalty and proven product reliability is all about.
For me when I want to buy a car, I did neither of the suggested above. I prefer a more direct approach.
For example if I want to get a Mercedes CLS350; I will rely on a popular car magazine like the Motor Trader to see which reseller has the better offer. Then I’ll directly go to a couple of their showroom for test drive and do comparisons. It is better that way because at the end of the day it is me who is driving and paying for the vehicle and NOT any review journalist.
Anyway there is an acute shortage of good and impartial automotive review journalist over here and the limited model ever reviewed. Maybe we should hire Jeremy Clarkson?
