The dynamic heart of the Golf GTI, the specially developed 4-cylinder turbocharged 2.0-litre 147 kW (200 PS) petrol engine, propels the car with an impressive 280 Nm of torque to a speed of 100 km/h in just 6.9 seconds, reaching a top speed of 233 km/h. Despite this performance, the power unit, which conforms with the Euro 4 standard, consumes an average of just 8.0 litres per 100 kilometres (fuel consumption: 7.9 – 8.2 l/100 km; CO2 emissions: 190 – 197 g/km).
GOLF GTI SAFETY
State-of-the-art laser welding techniques mean that the vehicle’s body is able to absorb most impact in the event of an accident and thus, prevent dangerous deformation of the passenger cell. At the back there is greater leg room for rear passengers and more boot space.
Airbags – with lightning-fast crash sensors.
The Golf GTI protects you with six airbags. The driver and front passenger will be protected by front airbags. As reinforcement, the curtain airbag system protects both front and rear passengers.
Intelligent control systems.
The Golf GTI is fitted with an extensive range of active safety features: the traction control system (TCS) prevents the wheels from spinning in wet conditions. The electronic stabilisation program (ESP) is assisted by front and rear disc brakes, the comfort brake assistant, and the anti-locking brake system (ABS).
GOLF GTI SUSPENSION
The Golf GTI overcomes any pothole and obstacle in sports mode. The dynamic safety suspension actively compensates for bumps on the road. The much-enhanced spring-strut axle at the front takes charge of wheel control, plus there is the multi-link rear suspension. The handling characteristics and ride comfort are perfected by the new electromechanical power steering.
Axles – precise on any ground.
The McPherson front suspension and the newly developed four-link rear suspension effectively absorb ruts and bumps in the road, so you will not feel any discomfort. The stabilisers in the front axle help keep the body roll down. The special configuration of the four-link rear suspension set-up means the longitudinal and transverse dynamics are controlled separately.
Suspension – stable on any bend.
The independent suspension reduces body roll along with the stabilisers. When cornering, especially, the Golf GTI’s roadholding is smooth and stable.
Electromechanical power steering.
The innovative electromechanical steering system responds directly and speed-sensitively. The key aspect is that the steering is a learning system. It detects any driving situation and automatically provides the necessary steering assistance. Even in strong side winds and on heavily cambered roads, you will be able to keep your Golf GTI straight effortlessly.
