VEHICLE OWNERS CAN CLAIM PROCEEDS FROM AUCTION – RTD.
KUALA TERENGGANU, March 25 — Many owners of vehicles auctioned off by the Road Transport Department (RTD) do not know that they can claim proceeds from the sale.
Terengganu RTD Director Abdul Rahman Emang Anyie said proceeds from the auction would be kept for one year before they were put into a government consolidated fund.
“Vehicle owners will be given balance of the proceeds after deductions are made for auction services. Nobody had come forward to claim proceeds from the auction in my six years here,” he told Bernama.
Abdul Rahman said vehicle owners only need to produce their identity cards to make the claims and that registration cards were not needed as the vehicles were already in its system.
“We will verify the owners and check if the vehicles are claimed by banks. Only then we can process and give the proceeds.”
He said the last Terengganu RTD auction on Jan 12 involved 34 vehicles worth RM25,950.
The vehicles were auctioned off by RTD after they were sealed for traffic offences, mostly for not having road tax and insurance coverage.
