THE FIRST PERODUA VIVA 660 BX & THE LAST 722223rd PERODUA KANCIL
Rawang, 20 July 2009: Perodua Kancil, one of the most iconic cars on Malaysian roads, rolled out for the last time at the company’s manufacturing plant here today, after 15 years of production.
With more than 708,000 units sold since August 1994, the Kancil is THE CAR that built Perodua.
Sales of the Kancil were nothing short of a wonder, it sold its first 50,000 units after its first year of production and its 100,000 units in 1997 despite the Asian Financial Crisis.
“The Kancil was sold in 19 countries stretching from Brunei to the United Kingdom. The compact wonder had a very good run,” Perodua Managing Director Datuk Syed Abdull Hafiz Syed Abu Bakar said at the Kancil Phase Out/ViVA 660BX (Basic) Line Off Ceremony here today. Also present were Perodua managing director (manufacturing) Osamu Oaki, senior management and 400 staff.
On average, the Kancil sold about 4,000 units monthly, and in October 2002, the unit had its highest single monthly sales of 7,700 units.
The Kancil’s retirement was a long time coming, as we believe in giving our customers value for their money with new models incorporating new technologies. As its replacement, Perodua introduced the ViVA 660BX, a basic variant, which is attractively priced at RM25,300 per unit.
Equipped with a DVVT (Dynamic Variable Valve Timing) 660cc engine, the ViVA 660BX comes in three colours; Ivory White, Ebony Black and Glittering Silver. This variant is only available in manual transmission.
The ViVA 660BX is the answer to entry level car buyers.
However, even after the Kancil’s phase out; Perodua is committed to continuing the supply of its service parts to the end customers for the many years to come.
