PROTON TO PRODUCE TWO-SEATER SPORTS CAR IN TWO YEARS

KOTA BAHARU, Dec 22 — Proton Holdings Bhd plans to produce a two-seater sports car in two years.

Proton Corporate Planning General Manager Dr Badrulhisham Mohd Ghazali said the vehicle would not be a hatchback type like Satria Neo but would look like the legendary Lotus.

“I can say InsyaAllah. It’s in the planning. We’ll see in a year or one and a half,” he told reporters after giving away school bags to 47 orphans during Proton Carnival on Wednesday.

He said Proton was serious in fulfilling the needs and desires of people, and was committed to introducing a new model every five years to increase sales and the company’s performance.

A new platform for Proton Saga would also be introduced in five years, he added.

“Presently, the Saga uses the platform or chassis of the Savy and it has been used for eight years. In our commitment to enhance quality, we will replace it with a new one for the Saga in five years.

“We won’t stop there. The Saga FL was introduced last week in quick reponse to people’s needs. Market need changes,” he said.

He said Proton Saga FL was an enhanced version following feedbacks from customers who wanted to see something different and had garnered 1,000 bookings.

The sub-compact model powered by 1.3cc Campro engine is priced between RM37,548 and RM44,998.

Badrulhisham said Proton would also introduce an enhanced version for the Inspira with additional accessories including skirting, bigger sports rims and neater interior.

“We may offer a limited edition for Proton Inspira,” he said.

He said that based on feedbacks, the majority of users preferred the 2.0cc Inspira as compared to the 1.8cc model and this was unexpected.

The Inspira that was based on Mitsubishi Lancer is priced between RM78,999 and RM 91,999.
