SECOND LEXUS SHOWROOM OPENS IN PENANG.

Lexus Malaysia, a division of UMW Toyota Motor, officially opened its new 3S facility in Penang, its second outlet in the country. Referred to as ‘Lexus Penang’, it is strategically located (on the site of the former Toyota showroom) in the heart of Georgetown near the E&O Hotel.

The showroom occupies a total built-up area of 10,000 square feet and has a luxurious lounge area as well as waiting lounge with a café for customers who send their vehicles in for servicing. The showroom, which reflects the essence of the Lexus brand identity, can display all the current Lexus models at the same time.

A covered area of 15,000 square feet adjacent to the showroom is allocated for the service centre and customer parking area. Still under construction, the Lexus service centre will be operational by June this year.

The opening of Lexus Penang is said to be in tandem with Lexus Malaysia’s strategic direction to expand its network and strengthen its position in the luxury car segment. For 2010, it aims to sell 400 vehicles, an increase of about 12% compared to total 2009 sales of over 300 vehicles.

“Having completed the ‘Brand Awareness’ Phase over the past 3 years, we are now moving to expand the network presence. With expansion plans in place, we aim to grow our market share,” said K.H. Kuah, President of Lexus Malaysia.

“The opening of Lexus Penang marks the start of extending our reach to be even closer to our customers. In line with our expansion plans, Lexus Malaysia will also be reaching out to its customers in the south, with a similar Lexus facility to be opened in due course,” he added.

At Lexus Penang, customers are promised the same superlative level of service and after-sales service that the brand has been famous for. With an investment of RM1.5 million, Lexus Penang is one of the latest motor showrooms in the northern region which accounts for about 15% of Lexus sales. It is operated by Telagamas Motors Sdn Bhd. which has 28 years of experience in the auto industry, especially in the northern region.

Commenting on the choice of Telagamas Motors, Mr. Kuah said, ”We appointed Telagamas Motors as our partner as they have a proven track record in the auto industry, strong management capabilities, as well as their commitment and dedication shown in undertaking necessary preparations for Lexus operation.”
