PROTON TO REVEAL TALKS OUTCOME IN 2 WEEKS; NEW MODEL TO ARRIVE BEFORE 2011.
In two weeks, Proton is finally going to announce the outcome of the protracted discussions with Volkswagen AG, the automotive group that has recently purchased stakes in Porsche, Suzuki and Italdesign Giugiaro. This revelation follows the confirmation from three months ago that Proton was engaged in “intense discussions” with Mitsubishi and Renault besides Volkswagen.
“We can confirm that we have been in talks with Volkswagen and will make an announcement in two weeks”, Proton Chairman Datuk Mohd Nadzmi Mohd Salleh said, before declining to mention further details, keeping the suspense alive for at least two weeks more.
Further good news for the Malaysian public: Proton will be launching an all-new model in the last quarter of 2010, either in the month of October or November. To increase Proton’s market share both locally and abroad, Proton “will invest in the new model and ensure it is accepted both at home and in export markets”, in the words of Proton Managing Director Datuk Syed Zainal Abidin Tahir.
