PROTON HOLDING REDUCE CAR DEALERS TO LESS THAN 200
Proton Holdings Bhd plans to slash its number of car dealers to less than 200 in an effort to be more efficient, chairman Datuk Mohd Nadzmi Mohd Salleh said today.
Currently, the national carmaker has about 330 sales outlet.
“Once upon a time we had 500 over sales outlets. They cannot survive with that kind of volume. If they cannot survive, they lost money and if they lose money, they cannot sell cars,” Mohd Nadzmi said.
“This is among the fundamental changes that needs to be looked into,” he said on the sidelines of an exclusive strategy session on the global financial crisis.
However, in order to terminate the dealers, they need to be paid, Mohd Nadzmi said but declined to state the amount of money that will be involved.
“We hope the government will assist financially to help these dealers to close their shops,” he said. — Bernama
