Come mid-January, Nasim Sdn Bhd, the official local franchise holder of Peugeot vehicles, will be adding a new member to its range of cars — the award-winning Peugeot 308 five-door hatchback.

The car bears the familiar V-shaped nose, sharp headlight and grille design but has been restyled for a more feline look.

Coupled with a steeply raked windscreen and large windows, the 308 promises a bright and airy feel.

Inside, the 308 gets white-faced instrument dials and gauges for a sporty and classy appearance.

Although the price has not been announced, expect this family car to be competitively priced against its Continental and Japanese rivals.

At the moment, the 308 will be offered in the VTi and the Turbocharged variants, both with automatic transmission for ease of driving.

ABOUT PEUGEOT 308

The Peugeot 308 series has been designed to build on the strengths of its predecessor and includes many more features of its own. It was unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show and has been getting rave reviews since then. The Peugeot 308 has improved features of space and has been known to consume less fuel and is more environment-friendly with lesser emissions.

The Peugeot 308 designed by the French Automaker PSA Peugeot Citroën (PSA) is the successor of the 307 model which belonged to the family car genre. This is the first one of the 008 series following which, models like SW Prologue, RC Z coupe and HDi Hybrid that is constructed in a way where the chassis of the 307 series is main- tained, while having different bodywork and bigger size.

The Peugeot 308 series has been designed with the use of tech- nology solely dedicated to improve environmental efficiency. The Peugeot 308 is available with a choice of six lean burn engines, including three petrol engines, developed in partnership with the BMW Group, and three HDi diesel engines. The slogan for the model is “The drive of your life”.

DESIGN

Exterior styling: The Peugeot 308 has an aerodynamic design which gives it an elegant appearance and efficiency. Exterior styling of the Peugeot 308 blends brilliantly with the proportion. The visual appeal of the model is further enhanced by the large tinted front windscreen, the carbon fiber roof panel and the polycarbonate tinted rear window which also gives a dynamic lighting to the interior. The exterior styling has a sharper and sportier shape with integral front fog lamps, while the front grill has chrome detailing. The Lion head logo is mounted on the bonnet or rather the nose of the bonnet.

Interior Design: The view of the interior of the 308 is a perfect foil to its amazing exterior design. The Peugeot 308 series has been designed exclusively to increase the interior space, something which has been lacking in the previous models. Due to the presence of tinted rear windows, the lighting is evenly spread and gives the appearance of a roomy interior. The interior décor of the car is also to be much appreciated with leather fascia panels and the comfortable seating is definitely a comfort factor.

SAFETY

A car of the Peugeot 308 standards cannot afford to miss out on the safety features and it is for this reason, it has been fitted with 7 Airbags with optional rear airbags too. The car also has an ABS and a Lane Departure Warning System.

The Peugeot 308 has undergone crash tests in Europe and has received a 5 and 4 star rating for the protection of adults and kids respectively. The car’s hazard warning lights flash to warn other motorists, when the brakes have been hit hard by the motorists.
