Peugeot unveiled yesterday pictures of restyling of its all time best-seller, the 206 plus for the European market. The car is also known as Peugeot 207 Mercosur in Brazil and Argentina. Since 1998, almost 6.5 million of Peugeot 206 had been produced. In Malaysia, Peugeot 206 is known as Naza 206 Bestari.

Taking some inspiration from the much newer 207, which is similar in overall size but more powerful and modern, the 206+ gets a new bonnet, radiator grille and headlights to update its ‘face’. Rather than being ‘all-new’, the new Peugeot 206+ promises the tried and true 206’s manners with a range of small and efficient engines.

Its interior has been designed with care, with a new “wave-look” dashboard and decorative touches that evoke the motorcycle world.

Manufactured in France, at the Mulhouse factory, the 206+ is intended for the core European market. It’s actually already available in some emerging markets, for example it is called the Peugeot 207 Mercosur in South America. It offers a range of engine options, with a 1.1 l petrol engine developing 44 kW (60 bhp) and a 1.4 l developing 55 kW (75 bhp), as well as a 1.4 l HDi Diesel engine developing 50 kW (70 bhp), keeping the carbon footprint under control thanks to CO2 emissions as low as 110 g/km.

With its size and its price/equipment ratio, the Peugeot 206 Plus takes its rightful place in the Peugeot range between the 107, 1007 and 207.
