As part of the celebrations for the 15th edition of the PETRONAS Malaysia Grand Prix, PETRONAS today announced the return of the PETRONAS Motorsports Demo Run set to take place on Sunday, 17 March 2013. The PETRONAS Motorsports Demo Run will take place in heart of the city is and is one of the main highlights of the PETRONAS Malaysia Grand Prix showcase. Set to take place along Jalan P. Ramlee and Jalan Ampang this Sunday, the return of the demo will see the participation of teams in PETRONAS’ motorsports portfolio, including the MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS Formula One Team.
Taking on driver duties in the MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS Formula One Team’s car are the team’s development driver, Sam Bird and PETRONAS Talent Development driver, Jazeman Jaafar. Also taking part in the demo is 5-time Japanese Super Taikyu Series champions and defending Malaysia Merdeka Endurance Race champions, the PETRONAS Syntium Team in the hands of three Malaysians – Fariqe Hairuman, Melvin Moh and Dominic Ang. The trio will be taking turns at the wheel of the team’s Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3. The PETRONAS Motorsports Demo Run will see the involvement of other drivers and riders from PETRONAS’ Talent Development programme. This includes 18-year old Hafizh Syahrin Abdullah of team PETRONAS Raceline Malaysia, who is currently set to embark on his sophomore season in the Moto2 category of the CEV Buckler Spanish National Motorcycle Championship.
Also joining Hafizh on Sunday are his motorcycle counterparts from teams PETRONAS Hong Leong Yamaha; PETRONAS Syntium Moto AHM and PETRONAS Yamaha-CKJ from the PETRONAS AAM Malaysian Cub Prix and PETRONAS Asia Road Racing Championships. Meanwhile, two other PETRONAS’ Talent Development drivers Afiq Ikhwan Yazid and Nabil Jeffri are also set to take part in the demo run. Commenting on his debut with the MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS Formula One Team, Jazeman Jaafar notes, “It’s difficult to describe the emotions I had when I was told by PETRONAS that I would be given the chance to drive the MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS Formula One™ Team’s Demo Car; I’m happy, excited, proud and impatient for 17th March! I am very grateful to PETRONAS for their support and putting their faith in me to put on a good show at this special event”.
As part of the activities in the build-up to the 15th edition of PETRONAS Malaysia Grand Prix, the showcase will also see the appearance of the two drivers from the Mercedes AMG PETRONAS Formula One™ Team who will be participating in their annual Meet The Fans session at the Concourse of Suria KLCC. The 2013 PETRONAS Motorsports Demo Run is supported by PETRONAS PRIMAX, MASkargo, Malaysia Airlines, DBKL, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia and Bank Simpanan Nasional.
