Energized by the dynamism that’s built into the Suzuki DNA, the Kizashi design team pursued an exterior look combining elegance and sportiness. The result is an uncommonly successful blend of conventionally contrasting attributes. At once dynamic and refined, it’s a new kind of design for a new kind of car.
The Kizashi’s side view combines a long wheelbase with one of the most modest overall lengths in the D-segment. Taut shoulder lines run from nose to tail over contours whose volume gives a sense of dynamism and refinement without any need for superfluous character lines. A bold, aggressive stance is complemented by available 18-inch aluminium wheels. And a sense of dynamism and quality is conveyed by details that include chrome-plated bezels on the turn-signal lamps, piano-black garnishes on the B-pillars, and glossy black beltline mouldings.
Further expressions of sportiness and elegance can be seen at the rear of the Kizashi. The rear combination lamps have a cylindrical theme that matches the look of the headlamps and gives an impression of depth and softness. Stainless-steel exhaust covers reflect inspiration from Suzuki’s motorcycle designs. The boot lid is both slim and rigid thanks to an advanced joining technique known as laser brazing. And abrush-stroke-style “Kizashi” emblem gives a sense of dynamism and Japanese tradition.
The interior design gives a contemporary, upscale feel. A “sporty and elegant” theme is reflected in features that include a bold but elegant centre console, high-grade controls and seats, and extensive touches of tactile and visual refinement
The visual flow is emphasized by satin-finish, inverted-L-shaped details at the points where the horizontal section meets the centre stack. The steering wheel has a sporty three-spoke design and can be sptecified with leather. Backlit switches for functions such as audio and cruise control, and it carries shift paddles if the owner has chosen the available continuously variable transmission (CVT). The main instrumentation takes the form of two cylindrically shaped meters with an information display between them.
Audio equipment with CD and MP3 playback functions is designed exclusively for the Kizashi. A soft-touch panel and a minimal number of display colours realize a premium look and feel. High-grade sound through 10 speakers for a listening experience befitting a D-segment car. An automatic air conditioner with independent left/right control ensures optimal comfort for the driver and front passenger.
The Kizashi’s seats are the result of close cooperation between Suzuki and one of the industry’s leading seat-quality specialists. For long-journey comfort, they combine generous dimensions with support that’s realized by a newly developed type of urethane. They’reupholstered with high-quality leather.
The driver’s seat has available 10-way power adjustability; the front passenger seat has available four-way power adjustability. The power-adjustable driver’s seat has a position memory for up to three users. Front and rear power windows, leather-wrapped inner door grips, knitted fabric on the Apillars and headliner, and seatbelt shoulder anchorages that are neatly incorporated into the trim further contribute to a level of comfort and refinement befitting a D-segment model.
Although the Kizashi is a sedan, it offers a level of utility that will satisfy people who downsize from larger cars. Luggage-carrying convenience in the Kizashi begins with a boot that has a generous capacity of 461L (VDA), and a 60:40-split-folding rear seatback. Handily positioned spaces for smaller items include an illuminated glove box, a double-layercompartment under the centre-console armrest, and an instrument-panel centre box that’s ideal for an iPod*3 and even contains USB and power sockets.
The Kizashi also offers exceptional driving convenience: Rain-sensing wipers that adjust the wipe interval to suit the extent of rainfall and the car’s speed ensure a clear view in foul Weather. The auto-dimming rearview mirror automatically adjusts its reflectance to avoid dazzling the driver when the lights of the following vehicle are exceptionally bright.
successfully enter a field that’s saturated with nondescript sedans, Suzuki has broken away from mainstream sedan values in line with its belief in delivering a dynamic and exhilarating driving experience.
Power in the Kizashi comes from a 2.4-litre DOHC inline-four petrol engine that combines potency with some of the best fuel efficiency in the class.
Power and fuel efficiency are promoted by measures that include maximized intake-valve lift, a variable intake system (this alters the intake-passage length to suit the engine speed for maximal intake efficiency across the rev range), and a plastic intake manifold (this suppresses temperature increases in the intake air for maximal cylinder-charging efficiency).
The engine also reflects a focus on suppressing noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) for a level of smoothness befitting a D-segment sedan. NVH-suppressing technologies in the main body of the engine include the first balancer shaft. Those in the intake system include manifold passages that are acoustically equal in length. And those in the exhaust system include dual high-capacity silencers and the first flexible joints.
Customers can choose between a CVT, which further promotes fuel economy without detracting from the driving experience, and a six-speed manual transmission that’s tuned for true driving enthusiasts.
To maximize driving pleasure and economy at all times, the CVT has several control modes: a normal mode, in which the engine speed is kept at the optimal level for the throttle opening and vehicle speed to promote fuel efficiency; a starting mode, in which the CVT maintains a low gear ratio for strong off-the-line acceleration; an acceleration mode, in which the CVT uses hundreds of shift maps to deliver a linear acceleration feel; a windingroad mode, in which the CVT optimizes gearshifts for twisty and hilly roads; a downhill mode, in which the CVT provides engine braking.
To ensure high levels of driver confidence and control, the Kizashi has an outstanding range of safety technologies.
Standard active-safety equipment includes an anti-lock braking system, electronic brakingforce distribution, and an ESP®* with traction control that heightens driver confidence by promoting stability during cornering manoeuvres, acceleration, and emergency manoeuvres and on slippery roads. Bumper-integrated parking sensors are also standard equipment on the Kizashi.
Passive Safety; the Kizashi has a light, energy-absorbing body in which structures that absorb and disperse impact energy are combined with a deformation-resisting cabin in line with Suzuki’s proprietary Total Effective Control Technology (TECT) concept. The front seats have three-point seatbelts with pretensioners and force limiters. And further protection is afforded by extensive airbags (six to eight depending on market).
