MORE TAXIS HAVE METERS CHECKED AT PUSPAKOM.
A total of 651 taxis have their meters inspected at Puspakom branches nationwide on Sunday, compared to 320 taxis the previous day.
Though the number of taxis undergoing such inspections had increased, it was still below Puspakom’s capacity of 1,200 taxis daily, said Puspakom Sdn Bhd‘s chief executive officer Khairudin Yusoff.
He said in a statement today that Puspakom was prepared to carry out inspections on all taxis throughout the country in line with the new fare structure announced by the government.
Records up to 5pm today showed that 195 taxis have gone through inspections at five branches in the central region comprising Wangsa Maju, Padang Jawa, Cheras, Bukit Maluri and Petaling Jaya and three branches in southern region comprising Seremban, Johor Baharu and Skudai.
The operating hours at these branches have been extended to 9pm.
Khairudin said taxi operators and drivers are required to be present at Puspakom branches for the inspections as computerised equipment are used to check on the recalibrated meters which indicated the new fares.
He said the objective of the inspections was to ensure that the taxi meters were programmed by the distributors to function according to the criteria set by the government.
