Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia (MMM), will showcase its i MiEV plug-in electric car at the International Petroleum Technology Conference (IPTC) Kuala Lumpur from Dec 3-5, 2008.
MMM is the exclusive distributor of Mitsubishi passenger cars and commercial vehicles in Malaysia.
The IPTC is one of the world’s foremost technical conferences for the energy industry. Themed, Meeting the Energy Needs of a Growing World Economy, the conference will focus on energy conservation, climate change and alternative energy.
Over 4,000 participants from around the globe are expected to attend the conference at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.
The company hopes that showcasing the i MiEV would generate greater appreciation for the superior practicality and environmental viability of electric vehicles. This is in light of depleting fossil fuels and global warming.
The Mitsubishi i MiEV lithium-ion battery pack will also be on display.
The battery can be charged for approximately seven hours using a 200-volt current and gives the i MiEV a driving range of 160km and a top speed of 130km/h.
The i MiEV, which can comfortably seat four people, is scheduled to be launched in Japan in 2009. Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) is currently conducting fleet tests in cooperation with several Japanese electric power companies.
Mitsubishi Motors initial involvement in electric vehicles began in 1971 with the development of the Minicab EV (Electric Vehicle).
Since then, the company has continued its research and development on electric vehicles, concentrating principally on motors and batteries,culminating in the development of the i MiEV in 2006.
