Then perhaps you may want to consider the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG, a car its German carmaker associates with automotive fascination and high technology at the highest level.
The SLS AMG super sports car was shown to the Malaysian media in Sepang, Selangor, yesterday, ahead of its global launch on Saturday.
And Malaysia became the first country to be home of the first of an initial batch of 10 right-hand units of the SLS AMG.
The Gullwing car, said Mercedes-Benz Malaysia Sdn Bhd executives, is the first independently developed vehicle by Mercedes-AMG GbmH, the performance unit of Mercedes-Benz.
It is the highlight of Mercedes-AMG’s more than 40 year history, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia vice-president Florian Mueller said at the SLS AMG’s sneak preview at the Sepang go-kart track yesterday.
The first SLS AMG unit owned by Mercedes-Benz Malaysia will be paraded at the Petronas Malaysian Formula One Grand Prix next month, said Mueller, who is in charge of sales and marketing of passenger cars.
The car also will be displayed at an international fashion show in Kuala Lumpur as well as Mercedes-Benz’s Autohaus (dealers’ showrooms) nationwide.
“We didn’t think about sales volume, whether it is 20 or 40 units. The SLS AMG is a brand shaker for Mercedes in the markets it is operating,” Mueller said.
The 6.3-litre V8 SLS AMG is precisely sold RM1 short of RM2 million at RM1,999,999.00 (private registration without insurance).
AMG was established in 1967 by Hans Werner Aufrecht and Erhard Melcher, and is considered a pioneer in the field of vehicle tuning for motorsports.
Following the cooperation pact in 1990 with Daimler-Benz AG, AMG was gradually incorporated into what at the time was DaimlerChrysler AG in 1999.
On January 2005, DaimlerChrysler bought 100 per cent of AMG shares. Today, Mercedes-AMG is a manufacturer in its own right within the Mercedes-Benz Cars.
