Proton EMAS is Malaysia’s first concept compact car design by Proton for future market and it is said that the EMAS will be in production line by 2011. EUROPEAN CARMAKER TO HELP DEVELOPE PROTON EMAS
They said that Proton managing director Datuk Syed Zainal Abidin Syed Mohamed Tahir had disclosed to staff members that the European carmaker was keen to help develop and market the Emas in Europe and the US.
Emas, an acronym for Eco Mobility Advance Solution, was designed in collaboration with acclaimed design house Italdesign Giugiaro (IDG).
IDG is one of the famous Italian studios, having designed models for many global manufacturers, including Toyota for its Lexus GS300, Volkswagen (Scirocco I), Alfa Romeo (Alfasud) and Hyundai (Pony).
The project was commissioned by Proton in the last quarter of 2009.
The concept version of the Emas was launched at the Geneva International Motor Show by Proton adviser Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad in early March. It was shown in three variants.

Malaysia journalists covering the launch described the car as “marking the birth of a golden era for Proton”.
Syed Zainal had said that Proton would need between 17 and 24 months to get the car into production.
Emas is expected to be commercially developed in three hatchbacks.
The first Emas model is a five-door four-seater. The second, Emas3, is a more compact three-door and three-plus-one-seater.
The third derivative is Emas Country, a rugged-looking three-door five-seater.
Emas and Emas Country are designed for all-purpose motoring, while Emas3 is more of a city car with its compact dimensions.
