KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 23 – The Euro 2M diesel will be introduced at all petrol stations nationwide next year, Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Shahrir Abdul Samad said Tuesday.
“The government policy is for all petrol stations to sell Euro 2M next year,” he told reporters after officiating the Tiram Wawasan Enterprise Shell station here Tuesday.
Euro 2M is a better quality of diesel and with the adoption of its specifications, the sulphur content in diesel will be reduced from 3,000 parts per million (ppm) to 500ppm.
Asked whether the price for Euro 2M will be higher, the minister said: “We haven’t work it out but I think the difference is not much. Especially during this time when the price of crude oil is lower, it is the best time to do this.”
On another matter, Shahrir said the ministry will be finalising discussions with distributors and wholesalers to streamline the pricing of lubricants.
“We propose to the oil companies to consider setting the prices of lubricants according to the crude oil prices in the market. Next year we will finalise all the discussions,” he said.
