DATUK SYED ABDULL HAFIZ NOT RENEWING CONTRACT AS PERODUA MD.
PETALING JAYA, Oct 20 — Perodua managing director Datuk Syed Abdull Hafiz Syed Abu Bakar confirmed today that he was not renewing his contract with the company.
His contract with Perodua expires this December.
He said that UMW Holdings Bhd, which controls 38 per cent of Perodua, had offered him an extension but he had turned it down to focus on charity work.
“This job is fun.But I said to myself at 27 years that I would only work until 50,” Syed Abdull Hafiz told reporters after officiating Perodua’s first RM6 million Body and Paint hub in Subang Jaya, Tuesday.
“I have done my best and now is the time to leave and concentrate on my personal life,” he added.
The word on the street is that, UMW Toyota Motor’s current executive director of strategic marketing, Aminar Rashid Salleh will succeed Syed Hafiz.
Syed Abdull Hafiz,51, also confirmed that the new managing director would come from the UMW Group.
Prior to joining Perodua, Syed Abdull Hafiz was with Exxon — now known as ExxonMobil — before moving to UMW to head the Penzoil and Kayaba operations.
Perodua is the country’s second national car maker while UMW Toyota Motor is the sole importer and distributor of Toyota and Lexus vehicles in Malaysia,
Both UMW Toyota Motor and Perodua are affiliated companies within the larger UMW Group umbrella. UMW Corporation is the main shareholder of UMW Toyota Motor, at 51 per cent.
