Chana Era CV6’s ‘birth’ announcement comes after a 21 000km ‘pregnancy’ when this tough little car trekked across often inhospitable terrain as part of the Chana Trax, an epic journey from China to South Africa.

The Chana Era CV6 proved to be durable and reliable, facing daunting rock strewn ‘roads’ and tarred highways alike, emerging without any mechanical failure and not even as much as a rattle. Temperature extremes of minus 8°C to 53°C plus and beyond did not phase the tough little Chana Era CV6 / Chana Benni. For many journalists who joined the Chana Trax experience, Benni was the hero, as it was not expected to endure the punishment that even hardy 4×4 vehicles would battle with.

Styled in Italy, the Chana Benni / Chana Era CV6 five-door hatchback has a fresh, modern design. The interior is surprisingly spacious for a car measuring just over 3.5m in length. The high roof line (1.5m) allows ample front and rear head room.

Controls are user-friendly and well within the reach of the driver. The modern elliptical, silver-finished dash centre console houses the radio and air-conditioning controls. The silver finish is echoed on the interior door closing handles, which incorporate the electric window controls.
