BMW WANTS TO SET BENCHMARK FOR PREMIUM PRE OWNED CAR MART
BMW Malaysia Sdn Bhd aims to take the lead and set the benchmark for the premium pre-owned car market in Malaysia.
Managing director, Geoffrey Briscoe, said the grey market trade under the premium vehicle segment has seen an average growth rate of 6.2 percent for the past four years.
“In 2007, around 6,081 parallel imports were purchased out of the total 13,760 premium vehicles sold,” he told a media briefing at the launch of its used car programme, BMW Premium Selection, here today.
Briscoe said the programme was part of the company’s strategy to face the grey market head-on.
He said a customer buying a car on the grey market or from an unauthorised used car dealer would put himself at great risk because the car may not have been designed for the Malaysian climate, has no service history and could have dubious documentation.
Briscoe said the BMW Premium Selection would offer features and benefits which were fully backed by a principal manufacturer.
“It is also designed to provide peace-of-mind motoring, the reassurance of a manufacturer-backed warranty and the same confidence as purchasing an entirely new vehicle,” he said.
He said vehicles sold under the BMW used car programme must have an approved and documented vehicle history as part of the criteria, pass a 72-point check by factory-trained BMW experts and have less than five years or less than 100,000 km mileage.
“Further premium services such as a 12-month warranty, roadside assistance and individual financing via BMW Credit are included in the programme, he said.
