     How much do you concern about taking care of your tyres? Now we would like to share simple basic things that you need to practice to keep you and your car safe on your journey. If you have any experience or tips, please share with all readers here.

    Lets begin with how to read the Tyre specification on the side wall of tyres.

    1. Tyre brand name
     
    2. Pattern or model code
     
    3. Tyre size
     
    4. Service description (Load index & Speed symbol)
     
    5. ECE or EEC type approval number**
     
    6. ECE noise approval
     
    7. North American recall code
     
    8. Date of manufacture code
     
    9. UTQG quality rating
     
    10. Maximum permitted load (USA)
     
    11. Maximum permitted inflation pressure (USA)
     
    12. Denotes tubeless construction
     
    13. Safety warning
     
    14. Direction of rotation (Directional or Composite tyres)
     
    15. Rim fitment instruction (Asymmetrical or Composite tyres)
     
    16. Denotes extra load tyre construction
     
    16a. Denotes reinforced tyre construction
     
    17. Position of tread wear indicators.
     
    **(C & U regulations stipulate all tyres used in the UK must carry an E number)

    How to buy car tyres? Make sure the tyre you buy have “MS” or “DOT” or “E” marking on it to ensure that it is within standard.

    Do not ever buy a second hand tyres that has exceed the level of wear (aras tayar botak).

    Most of us forgot to check all the tyres before going anywhere. Lets make a habit from today, check all your tyres before starting your journer. Make sure they are properly inflated and has no obvious damage.

    Inflate your tyres at least once a week if you use your car every day. Or every time you wash your car. This will improve your handling, fuel efficiency and safety on the road.

    Do the “balancing” and “alignment” every 10,000 km or whenever you feel that your steering shaking obviously on cruising or high speed at about 90kmh which means your tyres are not well balanced and when your car move out of the straight road during driving without holding the steering for awhile which means your tires is not alligned. The cost of  balancing and alignment is around RM30-RM50 only.

    Swap your front and rear tyres every 10,000km.

    Do not drive with maximum tyre load capability exceeded. Refer to your tyres specification.
