ALL-NEW JAGUAR XJ MAKES MALAYSIAN DEBUT
Jaguar’s all-new flagship, the XJ has finally reach Malaysian shores, after being unveiled at the Jaguar Lifestyle Gallery in Pavilion, Kuala Lumpur last week. Unveiled internationally over a year ago, the latest generation of the XJ, code-named X351, marks a radical departure from its more conservatively styled predecessors.
“This is an exciting year for Sisma and Jaguar with not only the launch of the all new XJ but also the celebration of Jaguar’s 75th anniversary. The all new XJ sets a new standard in the luxury saloon segment and we at Sisma Auto are proud to unveil this stunning new model in Malaysia,” said Tuan Syed Hussain Syed Mohamed, Managing Director of Sisma Auto Sdn Bhd.
Starting from the XK in 2006 and the XF in 2008, Jaguar has embarked on a process of reinventing its styling to suit more modern tastes. The new XJ keeps up with that practice, abandoning the big and stately stature of its predecessors for a bolder and more controversial look.
“We have replaced our entire line-up with new sexy models, beginning with XF and XK, and culminating in the all new XJ. These three cars are the foundation on which we are rebuilding our business,” said Mick Razza, Jaguar’s Director of Overseas Operations, visiting from the UK
for the launch.
“The new XJ is a thoroughly modern interpretation of the quintessential Jaguar. Its visual impact stems from the elongated teardrop shape of the car’s side windows, that powerful stance and its wide track. It is the most emphatic statement yet of Jaguar’s new design direction,” said Ian Callum, Design Director, Jaguar Cars.
To get things started, Sisma Auto will initially offer only the 5.0-litre natural-breathing Gen III V8 in XJ’s engine room. Displacing 5,000cc on the dot, this motor is rated to produce 380hp @ 6,500rpm and 515Nm @ 3,500rpm. Pricing is still subject to government approval, but it is expected to retail below RM 1 million – before you factor in registration, insurance, and all the bells & whistles. The supercharged variant, which is rated at 464hp and 575Nm will follow shortly.
As you would expect at this price level, Jaguar allows for a high degree of spec customization for the customer, with a choice 14 colour themes and 11 types of veneers to deck their cabins. In-car entertainment is courtesy of a 1,200W Bowers & Wilkins system which features an integrated Media Hub and satellite navigation. Instruments are displayed on a 12.3″ high-definition Virtual Instruments Panel, and on the dashboard lies an 8″ Dual-View touch screen which shows different images to the driver and front passenger.
