    The 16th edition of Le Tour de Langkawi, an internationally-acclaimed cycling tour will return on the 23rd January 2011 to it’s original Grand Departe in Langkawi Island, Malaysia. Scheduled to run through 10 stages, the race will end on the 1st February 2011, compared to only 7 stages previously.In that race Proton will sponsor 160 units of various Proton cars and  also exclusive Proton merchandise for the event.Read the full news from Bernama below.

    PROTON TO SPONSOR 160 CARS FOR LTdL 2011

    SHAH ALAM, Jan 13 — Proton Holdings Bhd will be sponsoring 160 units of various Proton cars to be used during the international cycling tour, Le Tour De Langkawi 2011 (LTDL 2011).

    Chief Executive Officer of Proton Edar Sdn Bhd, Mohamad Shukor Ibrahim said apart from being the official car provider of the tour, Proton would also be sponsoring exclusive Proton merchandise for the event.

    “The cars will be used by race officials, team managers, organising committee and the Cavalcade Convoy procession throughout the race,” he said prior to handing over a mock key to the Chief Executive Officer of LTDL 2011, Mohamed Salleh, here on Thursday.

    Proton would also provide technical assistance for the sponsored cars in case of breakdowns as well as for the car maintenance, he said.

    “To cater for such purposes, approximately 50 Proton personnel, comprising technical experts, drivers for the Cavalcade Convoy and other representatives of Proton will be on standby throughout the event,” he said.

    Mohamed also presented a mock Blue Jersey – the official jersey for the winners of the LTDL 2011 “Sprint” category, to Mohamad Shukor.

    Proton would be given the honour to present the Blue Jersey to winners of the “Sprint” category at various designated stages throughout the tour which will be held from Jan 23 to Feb 1.

    The 2011 LTDL is the 16th edition of the internationally-acclaimed cycling tour organized by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, in collaboration with the Malaysian National Cycling Federation.
