-10KM/H REDUCTION OF SPEED LIMIT DURING RAYA
The 10kph reduction in the speed limit on federal and state roads has been re-introduced for this Hari Raya travel period.
Until Sept 6, the speed limit on federal roads will be 80kph (from 90) and on state roads, 70kph (from 80).
However, the speed limits on highways will not be affected.
Transport Minister Datuk Seri Kong Cho Ha said this measure was one aspect of enforcement measures carried out by the police and Road Transport Department (JPJ).
“This involved Ops Sikap XXIV, which is in effect from Aug 22 to Sept 6, the JPJ’s Ops Bersepadu from Aug 14 to Sept 14, and the ban on heavy vehicles from roads on Aug 27 and 28, and Sept 3 and 4,” Kong said in his speech here Thursday before launching the national Hari Raya Aidilfitri road safety campaign.
The speed limit reduction was first introduced in 2006, with the aim of reducing the number of road accidents.
