BLUE BOX KOTA KINABALU BEGINS OPERATIONS WITH PEUGEOT 508 LAUNCH! (RM171,697 OTR)
Nasim Sdn Bhd today unveiled the internationally-acclaimed and award-winning Peugeot 508 (Pictures) in Sabah at the launch of the new Peugeot Blue Box Kota Kinabalu.
The all-new Peugeot 508, with an on-the-road price of RM171,697, marks a new chapter for both Nasim and the Peugeot brand in the premium executive segment.
“This premium luxury sedan encompasses everything Peugeot is famous for – class, character and panache. It is truly a remarkable sedan with emotion at the heart of it all,” said Dato’ Samson Anand George, COO of Nasim.
The all-new 508 has been billed as one of the most highly-anticipated launches of the year.
“With the launch of the Peugeot Blue Box Kota Kinabalu, we are confident the all-new 508 will be a success in the Sabah market.
“Peugeot Blue Box Kota Kinabalu is part of an expansion drive by Nasim to ensure the Peugeot brand has representation in all the major markets in the country,” Dato’ Samson added.
In June this year, Nasim appointed Angkatan Hebat Motor Sdn Bhd as its sole dealership in Sabah.
Angkatan Hebat Motor is a unit of Angkatan Hebat Sdn Bhd, which is the fleet management services provider to the Sabah state government and is also a dealer for several commercial and passenger vehicle brands.
The Peugeot Blue Box Kota Kinabalu comprises of a showroom at the 1Borneo Hypermall in Kota Kinabalu and a 2S dealership for after sales services in Kolombong.
As part of Nasim’s agreement with Angkatan Hebat Motor Sdn Bhd, the latter will look into expanding its Peugeot network to a few other cities in Sabah from next year onwards.
Once these dealerships are in place, Nasim is confident of achieving its target of 2 to 3% market share of the passenger car market in Sabah.
Meanwhile, the new 508, labeled the ‘Best New Car of 2011’ by the UK’s Fleet World magazine, features perfectly balanced and streamlined contours that reflect an elegant yet robust build quality.
“The European car market has grown exponentially this year in Malaysia because consumers have become more discerning. They want something classy yet exciting and dynamic. The all-new 508 is a modern and forward-looking vehicle that meets these requirements,” said Dato’ Samson.
At the front, the 508 features Peugeot’s new design direction with a floating grille that is less pronounced under the nose of the hood to lend emphasis on the marque’s legendary lion badge.
The headlamps of the 508 is another remarkable focal point of the 508’s front exterior with signature circular LED daytime running lights, bi-Xenon headlamps with headlight washers and auto height adjusters.
The headlamps also feature a smart beam function which, via an intelligent camera positioned at the back of the rearview mirror, analyses the lighting condition to automatically switch to high beam when needed and reverts back to the standard beam if there is on-coming traffic.
The side profile of the 508 is enhanced by the contours of its chrome-edged windows while its recessed waistline that runs the entire length portrays a blend of power and elegance. At the rear, three red clusters mask three rows of LEDS to give the car a unique signature at night.
Inside, the 508 offers the finest in elegance and comfort that emanates exclusivity hence the French carmaker’s international tagline for the car: Quality Time.
The black lacquered centre console and the touches of chrome on the fascia along with advanced technological equipment enhances the overall ambience in the 508.
Among the luxury features inside the 508 include a colour head-up display (HUD) unit, four-zone air conditioning, push-start ignition, an automatic electric parking brake, electric-powered seats for the driver and passenger, an intuitive control knob in the centre console that operates the 7-inch HD multifunction colour screen, USB and Bluetooth connectivity.
The all-new 508 is also equipped with an elegant yet sporty multifunction steering column with radio and volume controls, Bluetooth connectivity and cruise control functionality.
Enhancing one’s time inside the 508 even further is a 10-speaker JBL hi-fi system with a 500W surround sound amplifier with Arkamys audio processing. In fact, the overall ambience of the 508 is embellished by the extensive work carried out on acoustic and vibration damping in the car.
The all-new 508 offers generous luggage space of 545-litres at the trunk which can be opened either through a button on the smart key or the fascia or through the “0” on the external badge of the 508 at the rear. The 508 features a keyless entry system whereby the driver is able to lock or unlock the 508 by simply brushing his or her hand over one of the door handles with the smart key still in their pocket or handbag.
Like all Peugeots, the new 508 offers an exhilarating driving experience powered by an award-winning efficient and eco-friendly high-precision twin-scroll turbo engine which produces 156 hp and 240 Nm of torque.
The 508 has a fuel consumption of 7.1-litres per 100 km (on a mixed cycle) and CO2 emissions of 164g per km. The impressive fuel consumption of the 508 is also contributed by its optimised aerodynamics with a coefficient drag of 0.26.
This smooth and powerful drive is further complemented by an automatic six-speed transmission with Triptronic that can be operated by steering mounted paddle shifters for a more dynamic and sporty drive.
The 508’s front suspension is fitted with MacPherson type struts while the rear features a multi-link set up to ensure excellent efficiency, accuracy and vibration damping. As a result, the 508 offers a new, high-level synthesis of road holding and ride comfort that is synonymous with the Peugeot brand.
The all-new 508 features a Hill Assist system, front and rear parking assists that are displayed on the multifunction colour screen and an Available Space Measurement (ASM) system which aids the driver in parallel parking.
Like all Peugeots, the 508 is equipped with the highest of safety features such as six airbags, ESP, ABS, EBD, Emergency Brake Assist, Anti-Skid Regulation and Dynamic Stability Control which results in a 5-star EURO NCAP rating for the premium sedan.
The all-new 508 has picked up several awards such as the 2010 Auto Trophy in Germany where it was voted for the top award in the Import category ahead of 18 other models.
