If there is one fledgling car dealer catching the attention of the entire automotive market, it could be Cergazam Sdn Bhd.
A wholly-owned subsidiary of Bursa Malaysia second board-listed Permaju Industries Bhd, Cergazam is the super dealer of Chevrolet vehicles. And it has been on an aggressive expansion trail since its launch in January.
Cergazam is already the largest Chevrolet trader within the sole distributor HICOM-Chevrolet Sdn Bhd portfolio, with four out of seven dealerships that sell the American marque nationwide.
With 3S (sales, services and spare parts) centres in Petaling Jaya, Johor Baru, Prai and soon-to-be-launched in George Town, Cergazam is going to open another centre at Jalan Ipoh in Kuala Lumpur in a few months.
The company also plans to set up two body shops in the Klang Valley and Prai to do repair works exclusively for Chevrolet vehicles.
“The Klang Valley body shop should come first in the first half of 2009. The other one in Prai is expected to be established by December next year,” Cergazam executive director Eddy Chai said in an interview.
Cergazam’s clear and ambitious plan is underscored with its state-of-the-art Chevrolet facilities, Pahang-born Chai said.
“We are proud to be associated with a global brand like Chevrolet and aim to deliver on its brand promise of quality and value at our 3S centres. Ensuring excellent pre-sale and after sales service to our customers is key to strengthening the Chevrolet brand in Malaysia.”
He is bullish on the business prospects of Chevrolet here, given a strong model line-up and some 15,000 Chevrolet vehicles on the local roads at the moment.
There are exciting new models planned to be introduced in 2009 that will either expand or replace the current line-up boasting the likes of Captiva SUV, Optra Magnum and Aveo sedans.
“We are confident that Cergazam, backed by a highly trained professional team, will enhance customers’ confidence in the Chevrolet brand. This in turn will improve the sales of new vehicles and the residual values of the brand.”
Cergazam has invested around RM25 million on the four outlets it has now. Each of the outlets was designed to complement the Chevrolet global brand image.
“All of them are 3S, meaning customers can get sales, service and spare parts all in one place. Our aim is to solidify and strengthen customer confidence and loyalty for Chevrolet products and brand. We are confident in delivering on our promise,” he said.
Customers can view Chevrolet models in spacious showrooms with amenities including lounges equipped with Wifi and TV.
The service centres have been sized to meet the needs of the area covered, Chai said.
Total build-up for the flagship centre in Petaling Jaya alone is 47,000 sq ft, while the centre at Prai is 17,600 sq ft and Johor Baru is 14,200 sq ft.
Diagnostic equipment can be linked to the central database of principal General Motors (GM) to obtain technical information and assistance as well as to expedite any warranty claims.
As for spare parts, Cergazam has enough stock, with its Petaling Jaya centre boasting over RM2.5 million of spare parts. With direct access to the GM support network, the company is assured of efficient, speedy and systematic delivery of spare parts.
Cergazam is celebrating its first anniversary soon. In conjunction with the event, it is offering a package worth RM5,000 of free services and a five-year warranty.
