NEW MYVI 1.5 REVIEW – LAGI POWER LAGI BEST SPECIAL EDITION EXTREME

December 22, 2011 3:47 pm / 38 Comments / kdi

Recently we have a test drive trip to Terengganu with the new Myvi 1.5 SE Special Edition Lagi power Lagi Best. The Myvi 1.5 test drive review session covers more than 700km from KL via karak, kuantan to Cherating Terengganu. Our main concern is to do the fuel consumption test and acceleration test on the New Myvi 1.5 litre DVVT. We have concluded that the new Myvi 1.5 is a fuel efficient compact car. New Myvi SE and Myvi Extreme 1.5 Auto and Manual Price range from RM50,900 – RM61,700

NEW MYVI 1.5 REVIEW SE SPECIAL EDITION EXTREME TEST DRIVE REVIEW

NEW MYVI 1.5 SE SPECIAL EDITION EXTREME

The result of fuel consumption (penggunaan minyak) of Myvi 1.5 SE stated below:

>> Travelling 110km using RM13.26 which is 6.97895litre petrol at constant cruising speed 80km/h +-10 on highway MYVI 1.5 REVIEW

= 12.0545 cent per km (RM0.12 per km) = 15.76 km/litre (16.6km/litre on the meter)

>> We start to mark the half tank at 410km journey.

>> Then we fill up RM10 which can travel 68km (to 478km at half tank) in a mixed drive condition 60-100kmh = 5.263litre = 14.71 cent per km (RM0.14705 per kilometer) = 12.92 km/liter

>> We mark at 532 km of our journey at 3rd bar, fill up RM15 which can travel 124km (656km at 3rd bar) normal highway driving 90-110kmh speed range = 0.1209677 cent per km (RM0.12097 per kilometer) = 15.7 km/litre

>> The 3rd bar gives 52km mileage (from 656km at 3rd bar to 708km at 2nd bar) on normal mixed drive.

>> The last bar gives 105km from full tank.

>> Overall Myvi 1.5 fuel consumption = RM0.12-RM0.147 per km travel from steady mood to mixed drive mood.

City drive condition depends on the traffic. We expect the worst FC is (14.7-12.0)+14.7 = 17.4 cent per km (RM0.174) = 10.91954 km/litre

MYVI 1.5 REVIEW

NEW MYVI 1.5 INTERIOR DASHBOARD

Our opinion on the interior side – The new myvi 1.5 SE has a very nice dashboard design with futuristic optitron meter in red lighting, nice new steering wheel wrapped with leather, a good all in one player which incorporates bluetooth, cd player, radio and usb port. The gear knob is located near the steering at the dashboard feels quite loose. The 4 speakers sound quality is the worst we ever heard. But no worry, just change the speakers to the new better component speakers and mid base speakers with the cost of around Rm500 only.

MYVI 1.5 REVIEW

There is no issue about the legroom. Just enough and comfortable. The seat nicely fit to your body but the headrest is too hard where sometimes you feels like you are hitting your head to a stone while driving. The rear seat is high but the headrest below your head. For long journey, not good for rear passenger. The head room for rear passenger also limited to a normal height person. A person with around 178cm tall will have slight problem when sitting at the rear passenger seat.

The dashboard material quality has been improved by using a better plastic which has scratch resistance. The air condition now better than before. even with the lowest setting, it provides very cool air inside the cabin.

NEW MYVI 1.5 REVIEW

The 1.5 litre DVVT engine provides enough power whenever you need it. You would not need to push the fuel pedal hard for it to move. Just a slight touch with your foot, the engine will immediately response. It is very easy for the Myvi 1.5 to maintain speed at 80 and 90 kmh on a karak highway at around 2000 RPM with just a small input from your right leg. The low RPM torque is very good considering that it is a very light car below 1000kg with 1500 cc engine capacity. The RPM shows around 2000 at 80-90kmh and 2500 at 100km/h.

MYVI 1.5 ENGINE QUICK FACTS MYVI 1.5 REVIEW

13% more power, 16% more torque

11% improvement in weight-to-power ratio

The long-stroke all-aluminium DVVT engine is the 3SZ-VE, similar to that in the Alza but tuned a bit differently to suit the lighter Myvi. Compared to the 1.3-litre engine, power output is up 13% to 103 ps while there’s 16% more torque at 136 Nm. Though the new Myvi with a 200 cc larger engine is, on average, about 1.5% heavier, the extra output improves the weight-to-power ratio by 11%. Manual and automatic transmissions are available, like the Myvi 1.3.

MYVI 1.5

THE ACCELERATION TEST :

View the video to see the acceleration test of Perodua Myvi 1.5 SE from 0-100 km/h. The New Myvi 1.5 able to accelerate 0-100kmh within 12 seconds on a flat road. This is the best number we can get. We have tried the manual shifting but there is no point actually because the 2nd gear ends at 120kmh and the option on the gear panel is just from 2,3,D only. No “1″ or “L” selection for it to maintain the first gear up to maximum RPM.

MYVI 1.5 REVIEW

The maximum speed of the new myvi 1.5 is 170km/h. You will only get 170+ 2@3 when you go downhill. But seriously, do not ever try this because you can feel very strong wind pushing the car at 140kmh from the side. This is due to the design of the compact car which is not aerodynamic. The car is designed for city and normal drive seriously not for high speed. The suspension setup is really hard which cannot absorb the uneven road condition on our normal highway at higher speed.

So, do not ever drive the Myvi 1.5 at high speed. It is very light and really not stable at high speed due to suspension and aerodynamic factor.

On normal driving, you can feel the hardness of the suspension even at low speed around 80-90kmh, it fails to absorb uneven road surface which gives you more vibration and like always shaking in your car. But the noise insulation is very good.

MYVI 1.5 REVIEW

For conlcusion-

What we like :

+ The engine response

+ The multimedia touch screen player

+ The new looks with yellow paint

+ Noise insulation in cabin

+ The interior dashboard and optitron meter

+ The rear legroom

MYVI 1.5 REVIEW

What we don’t like :

- Very hard suspension

- Less comfort at cruising speed

- Very bad speakers

- Less compartment to put your stuff

- 14 Inch dark rims

- Hard headrest

- Less boot space

- Gear knob loose and less speed control

2012 LOTUS ELISE CLUB RACER + 2012 LOTUS EVORA S-IPS

November 16, 2011 10:23 pm / Leave a Comment / E.J

Lotus Elise Club Racer 2012 is the lightest Lotus made ever. Thanks to the engineering effort that helped shed 24kg from already the lightest model on the market. The Elise Club Racer available in a choice of six striking colours (Sky Blue, Saffron Yellow, Ardent Red, Aspen White, Matt Black and Carbon Grey) and bespoke design elements emphasises the character of the car.

2012 LOTUS ELISE CLUB RACER

The engineers behind the Elise Club Racer took a stripped to the bare bone approach visualised by the body-coloured seats but materialised in many ways such as the motorsport derived lightweight battery and the deletion of noise insulation. Attention to even the smallest of details has ensured that Lotus’ passion for performance through lightweight has been translated throughout the car.

For the first time ever an Elise variant comes complete with a Sport setting for the DPM (Dynamic Performance Management) allowing even the less experienced sports car drivers to feel at the top of their game, while the ability to switch it off completely will please the more established track orientated drivers. DPM combined with improved agility courtesy of Lotus finely tuned sport suspension and an adjustable anti-roll bar will make the Elise Club Racer equally versatile for both road and race track fun.

Quality throughout the vehicle has been a top priority, highly regarded component suppliers such as Eibach for springs and Bilstein for dampers ensure that the Elise Club Racer is a car of substance as well as style.

2012 LOTUS EVORA S-IPS

Lotus Evora S – IPS 2012 has all the power and handling of the Evora S with the versatility of IPS (Intelligent Precision Shift). The Evora S with IPS option features the 3.5 liter V6 supercharged engine delivering 350 PS and optimised IPS calibration. The paddle shift manual mode allows the driver the full and uncompromised Evora S experience with the added bonus of switching to automatic mode. This is the most versatile Evora yet.

The base Evora has 280 PS and tops out at a quick 261 km/h (162 mph) whilst returning an impressive 217 g of CO2 per km. The Evora S has 350 PS (345 hp) and 400 Nm (295 lbft) of torque, courtesy of a supercharger which gives acceleration of 4.8 seconds to 100 km/h (4.6 seconds to 60 mph) and a maximum speed of 277 km/h (172 mph).

The Evora IPS (Intelligent Precision Shift) option gives the Evora an automatic 6-speed gearbox with Lotus developed transmission control with a 3.5 liter V6 engine delivering 280 PS assuring a superior automatic driving experience.

The IPS option of the Evora allows the driver to switch between manual paddle shift and automatic drive modes. The driver also has the option of selecting ‘sport’ mode which showcases the Lotus sport driving experience allowing the driver to really feel each gear shift and be in complete control of the transmission.

2012 LOTUS ELISE CLUB RACER + 2012 HYUNDAI i40

2012 LOTUS ELISE CLUB RACER

The new 1.6 Lotus Elise Club Racer by the bright engineers at Lotus put even the lightest of Lotus’ modern cars on a diet and managed to shed a further 24kg. So how did Lotus manage to make one of the lightest models on the market even lighter?

The engineers behind the Lotus Elise Club Racer took a stripped-to-the-bare-bone approach visualised by the body-coloured seats but materialised in many ways such as the motorsport derived lightweight battery and the deletion of noise insulation. Attention to even the smallest of details has ensured that Lotus’ passion for performance through lightweight has been translated throughout the car.

For 2012 Club Racer, an Elise variant comes complete with a Sport setting for the DPM (Dynamic Performance Management) allowing even the less experienced sports car drivers to feel at the top of their game, while the ability to switch it off completely will please the more established track orientated drivers. DPM combined with improved agility courtesy of Lotus finely tuned sport suspension and an adjustable anti-roll bar will make the Lotus Elise Club Racer equally versatile for both road and race track fun.

The Lotus Elise Club Racer offers choice of six striking colours (Sky Blue, Saffron Yellow, Ardent Red, Aspen White, Matt Black and Carbon Grey) and bespoke design elements that emphasise the character of the car.

PROTON NEW SAGA BLM & PERSONA CAMPRO IAFM TEST DRIVE REVIEW

February 25, 2009 10:23 pm / 157 Comments / kdi

PROTON NEW SAGA BLM & PERSONA CAMPRO IAFM TEST DRIVE REVIEW

Recently i have something in my mind about the Proton New Saga BLM and the Proton Persona. So i decided to do some research on user’s reviews about both cars through the internet and finally today, I went to EON to see and feel it myself about the IAFM engine cars. It took us about an hour to test drive both car at EON Glenmarie with some interview session with the Proton SA (Sales Agent)

PROTON NEW SAGA BLM & PERSONA CAMPRO IAFM TEST DRIVE REVIEW

The reason why i test drive both car is because they use same campro IAFM engine but differ in capacity and the price range is not too far where you can have a Persona by just adding another more RM100/month. Some people might think that by just adding RM100, they will get a bigger car and surely better for them. To know what i have found out about the different of both of the car, i will explain to you in details here.

Basically, Proton New Saga BLM is an entry level model. It is the most affordable car produced by Proton with Campro IAFM 1.3 litre while Proton Persona is more to family car middle class with Campro IAFM 1.6 Litre.

PROTON NEW SAGA BLM & PERSONA CAMPRO IAFM TEST DRIVE REVIEW 1

Just now i went there with KDI team editors Azameel and Aizat to test drive Saga 1.3L Auto M-Line first and then Persona 1.6L manual B-Line. I decided to have saga auto and persona manual because the price range are close and many people have both cars in their mind to decide which one to buy.

Firstly, when i entered the saga blm 1.3L IAFM campro Auto, I feel so comfortable with the seat and feel that the saga is so spacious. The seat is high and it is adjustable with the height. The steering, is a solid plastic. Perodua kancil’s steering is better with soft synthyetic rubber + plastic material. But that is not so important. You can change the steering wheel anytime with the better one with aftermarket stuff. Same goes to other Proton cars such as persona. Sorry for the statement that i just cancelled here. I just went to Proton Showroom again for some stuff to do and found out the steering is better and softer. Maybe the test drive car use the plastic one. And the interior looks great.

PROTON NEW SAGA BLM & PERSONA CAMPRO IAFM TEST DRIVE REVIEW 1

The advantage of this car is the exterior is very nice design with audi like style for front bumper and Mercedes Benz like style for the rear. The interior is better than other cars in its class such as Perodua Myvi especially in terms of leg room, head room and boot space that is huge. You can even put an NGV tank behind and have better boot space than perodua Myvi. The interior is less in terms of design if compare to myvi, but the material is better than myvi where the myvi dashboard is easily get scratched.

About the performance of this auto transmission saga blm 1.3L campro IAFM, at the first gear is a bit less pickup but you will get the actual power after the auto transmission change to 2nd gear. With full load of 4 people inside, i can feel the 1.3L auto engine pull us to reach the maximum output of 94HP at 6000 RPM and 120Nm of torque at 4000RPM which is better than Perodua Myvi eventhough the Myvi is equipped with vvt technology. That is the power of Campro IAFM that just have Integrated Air Fuel Module but no Variable valve timing technology.

PROTON NEW SAGA BLM & PERSONA CAMPRO IAFM TEST DRIVE REVIEW 1

I like to compare Saga BLM to Perodua Myvi (saga vs myvi) because both are a very close competitor in Malaysia Car Market. The different with myvi engine is, it feels so smooth and the saga is quite rough but feel more power even with many people inside. Azameel has drove a Saga Manual before this and according to him, the engine of manual version of the new saga is more noisy than that auto transmission Saga Blm. And it is true, when i push the paddle hard, i just didn’t realized the car has gone to 135km/hour. It is so stable. Not like myvi at 135km/hour you can feel not secure to drive more than that. It is maybe because of the saga’s heavier power steering and lotus tuned chassis that is more stable. I can’t go more because the test drive path not allowed me to do so. When taking a turn at the round about, the body roll of new saga is less and it is so stable at cornering compare to Perodua Myvi. I feel that the suspension system is quite good but Persona wins in terms of comfortability of the suspension system.

PROTON NEW SAGA BLM & PERSONA CAMPRO IAFM TEST DRIVE REVIEW 1

And then we test drive the Proton Persona 1.6L Campro IAFM. The interior is just like saga BLM material but better in design of the dashboard. About the interior dimension, even in the specification paper written that Persona have more width if compare to saga, but we felt that saga interior space is better in terms of legroom, headroom and more comfortable. This may be due to the seat of saga is higher and comfortable that allow more legroom and relax feeling sitting in the car while persona has lower seat height. Azameel and Aizat sat at the back during the test drive and made a conclusion that they feel more comfortable and spacious on back seat of saga if compare to Persona and i just shocked about it. No joke and it is totally true.

PROTON NEW SAGA BLM & PERSONA CAMPRO IAFM TEST DRIVE REVIEW 1

About the performance of the campro 1.6L IAFM under the hood of Persona, overall is it is impressive. The engine is so responsive and can pull you to the max performance of 148Nm of torque at 4000RPM and 110 horsepower at 6000RPM with the manual transmission. I always push the paddle to the maximum until the pointer of the RPM meter reached red line and shift to higher gear then. It is fun doing that with campro IAFM 1.6L engine. I just have the chance to reach fifth gear once only. During turning at the same round about, it is more stable than saga BLM because of the weight and width of persona. The suspension is of course better than saga and myvi. Feel so smooth especially on an uneven surface of road.

I nearly have an accident with a Toyota Hilux at 130km/hr speed just because that i cannot see the back clearly and didn’t realized the Toyota Hilux at the right lane. This is due to its high position of rear bonnet that obstruct my sight on the centre mirror. But this is just a small issue. You will get used to it. The maximum speed i can go on the test drive path is 145km/hr with very good noise insulation or NVH. You can still feel comfortable and not feel that it is already 145km/hr.

PROTON NEW SAGA BLM & PERSONA CAMPRO IAFM TEST DRIVE REVIEW 1

The gear shifting sometimes obstructed by the center armrest. Overall the persona is very good in terms of performance, stability and driver’s comfort.

The saga wins over Persona with more comfortable rear seat space, legroom and nice seat.

Which one to choose? Saga BLM M-line auto (RM40k) and Persona B-Line Manual (RM45K)? It may be more practical to have Saga BLM than Persona in terms of Driver and passenger’s comfort, Fuel consumption and adequate space for a family. But if you eager more on performance and more grand look exteriorly, go for Persona then.

Anyway, that is just my humble opinion about Saga BLM and Persona Campro IAFM. It is all depends on you which one to choose after you have test drive both car at your nearest Proton Showroom.

During the test drive session, we saw some Saga BLM Taxi version with higher engine spec 1.6 Litre Campro IAFM with NGV. It must be better to get the Saga 1.6L with NGV i think.
So, to Saga Owner and Persona owner, care to share your driving experience here so that we can help more of our friends to buy Proton car.
