The new Ford Mondeo now in Malaysia.The Mondeo which is the fifth new Ford model launched by AutoConneXion this year is the answer or the competitor for the Toyota Camry, Honda Accord and also Mazda6.The fully imported new Ford Mondeo is also one of Ford’s most important products, and is one of Europe’s most popular large sedans.The price of the new Mondeo is RM 174,101.80 (OTR w/o road tax, registration and insurance) with a 3-year/100,000 km warranty, whichever comes first.

The new Mondeo is powered by 2.3 litre Duratec HE 4-cylinder engine, a powerplant that is Ford’s own and not the 2.3-litre unit that is in the Escape which is from the Mazda MZR family. This all-aluminium petrol engine produces 161 ps/118 kW of power at 6500 rpm and 208 Nm of torque at 4200 rpm. A 6-speed automatic transmission is standard and this has a Sportsmode which allows the driver to also shift manually when desired.

Talking about safety, the Mondeo scored 5/5 Euro NCAP stars and this top rating is applicable to the model sold in Malaysia since it comes with the full complement of passive safety systems that include 7 airbags. You may wonder why there is an odd number of airbags when they should all be in pairs and the answer is that there is one airbag just for the driver – located under the steering column where it inflates to protect the knees during a frontal collision.

Active safety features such as Antilock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD) and Emergency Brake Assist (EBA) ensure quick and accurate braking, while auto hazard lights are activated automatically when the Mondeo detects emergency braking. There are also the other usual features in the construction to ensure that the occupants are well protected from all sides and ISOFIX mounting points are provided for childseats.
