2010 SENNER TUNING NISSAN 370Z ASPHALT SURFER

Nissan 370Z Asphalt Surfer is a latest project car by Senner Tuning. It has modified the 370Z with an ECU tune, sports air filter and cold air intake, boosting power to 365 hp (272 kw) and torque to 400 Nm. Twin 63.5 mm (2.5 inch) sports exhaust, door mirror caps / B-pillars capped in carbon fibre and black painting front / rear splitter round out the exterior package.

Added 20-inch Barracuda alloys by Tzunamee Racing, which are available in either white or black and wear 9×20? 245/35 R20 rubber at the front and either 10×20? 275/30 R20 or 11×20? with 285/30 R20 rubber at the back.

While the interior Senner Tuning Nissan 370Z Asphalt Surfer are more subtle and have carbon fibre added to the instrument barnacle and additional (dash top) gauges.

Ok guys, today we are going to continue sharing good info, on how to DIY the Installation of Ammeter and Voltmeter performance gauge in a car. For those who need to monitor your car battery / DC power constantly for ICE etc, please take note to do it yourself. Basically, you can buy the volt and ampere gauge or meter at around RM40-100 and install it your self. It is quite a fun thing to do on your car.

You need to buy the volt or ampere meter, with the meter holder with stand (like above) or without stand, 3 meters wires and an electrical tape. You can buy any design or type of meter or gauge that you like. The installation circuit is the same for all. Some famous brand are Autogauge, Type R and Jasma meters.

Above picture is voltmeter and the back of it is the ammeter. Some meter is provided with the black cap like the one shows above which has been fitted on the meter.

You can see a rubber band like “o” ring seal fitted on the gauge’s body for fitment of the meter in the meter holder. If there is no rubber band, you can use double sided tape.

There are 4 point which you need to connect with battery source. The two wires on top of the picture which usually ready made on the meter is for meter lighting power source. While other two is for volt/ ampere reading.

You need to connect another 2 wire at the bottom of the meter like above which written there “+” and “-”.  The +ve wire in red is connected to +ve red wire and -ve to -ve black wire.

Then you can put the meter into the meter holder. Picture above shows boost meter with long tube. Ignore the tube / host because voltmeter and ammeter do not have the hose actually. That is for boost meter and vacuum meter only. I just forgot to take picture with volmeter =p

Connect the two wires to the power source (battery or other source) that you want to use as lighting for the meter and other two red and black wire to your battery for batter volt or ampere reading. use the diagram above as a guide for ammeter and voltmeter circuit installation. Put red wire on +ve red battery terminal and black wire to -ve battery terminal and bring the wires into the car cabin via a hole between the engine bay and dashboard.

After all wire connection done, secure it with electrical tape properly and you can test the meter. Remember to put 10/15/20 ampere fuse between the wiring diagram just before red +ve terminal of car battery. Don’t worry of anything because if any wrong connection, only the fuse that will be burned. All car electric device are totally safe. Just replace the fuse, do the right connection according to diagram and test it again.

BMW M POWER METER APP FOR IPHONE

Last time, my friend show me on how he calculated the acceleration of an aircraft by using his iPhone.He did that by take the advantage of the iPhone’s built-in accelerometers that can also measure your car’s performance.Now BMW has released a free iPhone app that measures both acceleration runs and the g’s you’re pulling in the process.

Called the M Power Meter app, the program turns your iPhone into a makeshift VBox. Play with the settings and it can measure your 0-50, 0-80, 0-100 and 0-160 km/h times. Three custom skins for the program are also available in addition to the basic skin the app comes with.

Operation is very simple. Just press start, agree to the warning and disclaimer and you’re ready to go. The iPhone must be laid flat pointing in the direction of travel or sitting upright at 90-degrees in order to get a measurement, so you might need a passenger to hold it or a mount for it. Getting the app to take an accurate measurement was a bit tricky as the car must be at a complete stop when you start recording and it seems to take a second to begin measuring after you press start. Once you get it, though, it will automatically stop recording once you’ve reached the selected speed or distance. You can also set it to Continuous Measurement to see your performance measurements in real time.

 POWER-GENERATING SHOCK ABSORBER (PGSA)

The Power-Generating Shock Absorber (PGSA) uses energy that would be otherwise lost as heat to generate electricity.

A conventional automotive shock absorber dampens suspension movement to produce a controlled action that keeps the tire firmly on the road. This is done by converting the kinetic energy into heat energy, which is then absorbed by the shock’s oil.

The Power-Generating Shock Absorber (PGSA) converts this kinetic energy into electricity instead of heat through the use of a Linear Motion Electromagnetic System (LMES). The LMES uses a dense permanent magnet stack embedded in the main piston, a switchable series of stator coil windings, a rectifier, and an electronic control system to manage the varying electrical output and dampening load.

The bottom shaft of the PGSA mounts to the moving suspension member and forces the magnet stack to reciprocate within the annular array of stator windings, producing alternating current electricity. That electricity is then converted into direct current through a full-wave rectifier and stored in the vehicle’s batteries.

The electricity generated by each PGSA can then be combined with electricity from other power generation systems (e.g. regenerative braking) and stored in the vehicle’s batteries.
Plug-and-Play

The PGSA is the same basic size and shape, and mounts in the same way, as a standard shock absorber or strut cartridge.

BELOW ARE SOME INFORMATION THAT WE GET FROM THE PROJECT DESCRIPTION BY JONATHAN BANKSTON, YAVUS MENTES AND ALEX RUDERMAN. HOPE THAT YOU GUYS CAN UNDERSTAND HOW IT WORKS.

The mechatronic system we have chosen to model is an Power-Generating Shock Absorber (PGSA) acting on an automotive chassis. The shock absorber will be used in conjunction with a spring to simulate one of the four suspension system of an automobile. When designing an automotive suspension system the key is to balance the ride of the automobile. More specifically, the suspension is meant to absorb the effects of an uneven driving surface and tilt/sway of the car. However, excess energy loss occurs due to resistance in the damper fluid and compression of the spring. The PGSA converts kinetic energy into electricity through the use of a Linear Motion Electromagnetic System (LMES). As shown in the Figure 1, the absorber consists of a damper with permanent magnet stack that slide in and out of stator windings connected to two sliding blocks inside the damper casing.

Our model of a PGSA (Figure 2) uses a modified eMF. The eMF was converted for translational motion and installed opposite of the traditional application. A power sensor with an integrator measures the energy generated by the reverse linear motor. The model in Figure 2 is the strut-tower setup, so a spring was included to complete the model.

To accurately test our PGSA, we utilize four of the shock absorbers in a model of a traditional four-wheeled car (Figure 3). The electrical energy generated is the sum of the output from all four PGSAs. The ride quality in the car is characterized by the maximum vertical acceleration, taken by an accelerometer. The cost of the PGSA is calculated outside of Dymola in an Excel Spreadsheet. These objectives were analyzed in ModelCenter. These links between the Excel spreadsheet, the Dymola model, and the Latin Hypercube Sampling analysis are shown in Figure 4.

Our use of the optimization process helped our design variables to converge to an optimal design alternative.  The most valuable combination of design variables is a magnetic field of 0.556 Tesla, a wire length of 268.49 meters, and a cross-sectional area of 1.176 × 10-6 m2.  The corresponding utility value for the nondeterministic case is 0.8493 which is slightly higher than that of our optimal design alternative in the deterministic case.

Based on the overall design process undertaken, the optimal values were acceptable for the assumptions that were made.  We believe that a more accurate evaluation of the system could be made by expanding the number of controllable design variables and taking into account other uncertain variables that were not considered.  Due to the lack of high level knowledge and attention required in this course and the short period of time, the beginning of the problem selection and analysis began a rode of a number of large assumptions that limited the possibilities of a truly accurate design.  Even though the design space was limited from the beginning, the overall process was followed and internalized by all of us relating in a comparable increase in knowledge of the work necessary to solve a design problem under uncertainty using the modeling and simulation tools from this course.
