PEUGEOT 207 SEDAN MALAYSIA

Peugeot Malaysia launched a new model, Peugeot 207, that will compete with its closest rival Toyota Vios and Honda City. The price is RM72,888 on the road which is affordable with some extra features. The 1.6 engine is not as powerfull as Campro CPS but is estimated to give 6.1 litres per 100km fuel consumption of 207.

PUTRAJAYA: The mass market Peugeot 207 has joined the fray as the most affordable European-branded model in the local market.  

The four-door sedan is selling at RM72,888 (on-the-road with insurance) and comes loaded with features for a value-for-money package.

Marketed as a B-segment car, the locally assembled 207 is roughly the size of a Honda City or Toyota Vios and is equipped with 1.6-litre engine with 110bhp and 149Nm of torque mated to a four-speed adaptive Tiptronic automatic transmission.

Fuel consumption is estimated at 6.1-litres per 100km under a mixed driving cycle.

Features include anti-lock braking system, electronic brake distribution, emergency brake assist, two smart airbags for the front passengers – which inflate in relation to the intensity of the impact – a rolling code immobiliser, “follow-me-home” functionality for the front headlights and auto-hazard warning lights which are activated upon sudden and heavy breaking.

Also included are two ISOFIX attachment points at the rear for child safety seats along with the front passenger airbag that can be deactivated to safely fit a child seat on the front passenger seat. 

Other equipment include 15-inch wheels, premium audio capabilities with an MP3/WMA CD player with six speakers, USB support and Bluetooth mobile handsfree connectivity.

Nasim Sdn Bhd chief executive officer and Naza Group of Companies joint executive chairman S. M. Nasarudin S.M. Nasimuddin said the 207 is the first Peugeot to be produced in Malaysia that would be exported to other right-hand drive markets in Asean and also Sri Lanka.

 
“The 207 heads into an extremely competitive market currently dominated by Japanese makes. But we believe there is a current shift in the market towards European brands.
 
“Aimed at urban consumers and young families, the 207 is aesthetically appealing, generously equipped, safe and above all, an absolute delight to drive,” said Nasarudin.
 
Former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad launched the 207.
 
Nasarudin said Nasim is targeting to sell between 5,000 and 6,000 units of the 207 next year with 30% of that volume to be exported to other right-hand drive countries such as Thailand, Brunei, Indonesia and Sri Lanka.
 
“Like its tagline, the 207 certainly is an irresistible car and is the beginning of a new strategy for Peugeot in Malaysia and the rest of the region and we believe we will be able to achieve our sales target,” said SM Nasarudin.

MAZDA INTRODUCES MX-5 MIYAKO SPECIAL EDITION

The Mazda MX-5 had been one of the longest production model in Mazda. It is a one hell of a fun mini roadster to throw around the track.Receently, Mazda had introduced the latest special edition of the roadster, the MX-’5 Miyako which was named of a Japanese Holiday Island.

Sales will start on 1st of July with only 500 units available up for grab. The 500 units will be available in two variants, a 126HP 1.8i Miyako soft stop selling from £18,385 (RM90,200) OTR or if you are in need of serious fun there is the more powerul version featuring a 160HP 2.0i and equipped with a folding hardtop which is priced at £20,885 (rm102,464) OTR.

The Miyako gets larger 17-inch alloy wheels, standard fog lamps and a front suspension strut brace for improved steering response. Both versions of the MX-5 Miyako will be available in Aluminium Silver Metallic, while the soft-top will also be offered in Velocity Red Mica -all free of charge.

Standard equipments for both models include remote central locking, a leather steering wheel with audio controls, an MP3 compatible audio system with six speakers and auxiliary (AUX) jack input, as well as heated electric mirrors and electric front windows, a Thatcham Category 1 alarm and immobiliser. In addition, Limited Slip Differential (LSD), Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) and Traction Control System (TCS) are included on the 2.0i.

THIEVES MAKE OFF WITH THREE HONDA CIVIC IN THE SAME NIGHT

Three cars of the same model were stolen around the same time in the wee hours of March 25 in Taman Sri Rampai, Wangsa Maju.

Two of the victims had parked their cars — a Honda Civic — in the porch and they did not even hear the thieves breaking in.

One of the victims, who only wanted to be known as Victor, felt the blow as he had only bought his car less than three weeks ago. It cost him RM128,000.

“My car, a silver Honda Civic, was parked in the car porch and the gate was locked. We only noticed that the car was stolen when my wife was about to go jogging at about 6am,” he said at a press conference in the Setiawangsa MCA headquarters.

Setiawangsa division MCA Public Complaints Bureau chief Kent Ho, who himself is one of the victims, had captured the entire process on the CCTV camera.

“From the CCTV, we could see the suspects’ faces. It was a two-man team, both in their 20s to 30s, dressed in similar casual clothes and they did not even cover their faces or wear caps or sunglasses.

“They drove a car similar to mine and carried bags, which we suspect contains a device they used to detect the car’s immobiliser.

“It took them less than 18 minutes to drive off in my car.

“They seemed like experienced thieves because they were able to detect the car’s mother board and cut off the alarm within five seconds and know exactly where the houses of the Honda Civic were situated.

“My mechanic told me that with the car’s technology, it is impossible for anyone to drive off without the designated car key.

“There were very careful and quiet. I was still awake at the time of the theft, which took place is from 2.45am to 3.03am, but I did not hear a sound,” he said, adding that he will post a copy of the recordings online to warn the public about the thefts.

He hoped that the police would be on the look out for the thieves who might smuggle the cars out in containers.

“The police also told me that I was not the first victim that night,” said Ho.

He called a Honda centre and the reply he got was that they were not aware of it and that Honda’s devices could not be brought out from its premises.

Ho said he would report the incident to both Honda Malaysia and Honda Japan.

“We want an explanation because how can such an advance immobiliser be foiled?” asked Ho.

He added that he would write a letter to the Sentul and Bukit Aman police to inform them that the crime rate in Taman Sri Rampai had escalated.
